Okay, I'm looking at buying a new PC game and I'm having some trouble deciding between these two games. So I'm here to tap the minds and hearts of fellow ENWorlders for opinions.

So which do like best and why? All comments and info are appreciated! :D

I'll second the vote for KotOR. I had a blast playing it. I haven't played JA nearly as much, but I also didn't have as much fun when I did play it.

Starman

Played both to completion - The life of a video game reviewer is soooo hard:)

Anyway, JA is a great FPS game, the lightsabre combat has been upgraded and the mission based story approach really gives you a sense of freedom. Unfortunately the story is somewhat hackneyed, and predictable so keep that in mind.

KotOR however is quite possibly the best Star Wars game ever made in any genre. It is based loosely on d20 Star Wars, the characters have a fixed progression to some extent but this helps keep the excellent story focussed. The characterization, action and sense of 'star wars goodness' abounds. It is a worthwhi;e investment of playing time and the options to play light and dark side characters makes the game replayable at least two or three times just to examine the options.

JA was pretty good.

KotOR is the best rpg I've played in years, and the best Star Wars anything right after the original movie trilogy. And I'm probably understating it. :)

Depends what you're in the mood for. Jedi Academy is a very enjoyable action game with some hot lightsaber combat and good online play. Knights of the Old Republic is an awesome, epic RPG. All in all, KotOR is probably the better game, but they're both worth picking up.

JA is a decent FPS game, but Jedi Knight 2 was IMO better in almost every respect - but especially when it comes to level design. (with lightsaber combat being the only possible exception, but I think it flowed much better in JK2 despite the lack of matrix-like special moves that are useless in a real fight anyway...)

KotOR, on the other hand, is the best SW game so far, hands down, and easily in the running for best RPG ever... (would have been even better as a straight-up PC game, but then, they always are :D)

KOTOR just won "Game of the Year" from PCGamer magazine. Jedi Knight II did well in the reviews too, but not THAT well.

If you are looking for more of an action game, you might prefer Jedi Knight, but overall KOTOR is a much better game, and it has plenty of action, too.
