I mean, who would want to buy a product from some pretensious jerk.

Sadly, some jerks put out really good product. I haven't seen any reason to believe this is the case here, but I'm just saying creative talent and personal likability are not always linked.

But I'd have to get some super wonderful review to waste the money trying a FFE product at this point...

As Dramack says, it's his website, so he can say anything he likes.

Sure he can. Anyone can shoot their mouth off in their own forum. That's pretty much a given.

But beyond that, I'm not sure what exactly I'm supposed to make of your (and Dramack's) sentiment. People are entitled to an opinion; they are not entitled to have their opinion accepted or even tolerated.

People are entitled to challenge opinions they find odious.

Lol, yeah, I call that "John Byrne Syndrome". If you read comics, you'll get that, if not you won't.

I can't imagine what either you or Dramack means by this. Failing a call for a congressional investigation and shutdown of FFE, what is your point?

OF COURSE he can say whatever he wants. And by saying it in a public forum, he opens up what he says to public discussion and (if neccassary) ridicule. When did "free speech" morph into speech free of consequences or even criticism?

Geesh, contribute to the discussion or not, but don't try to make the discussion irrelevant with such a non sequitor.

Heh, read comics, liked Byrne, but never met him or read any editorials by him, so don't ruin it for me! ;)

The depressing thing to me is that in the early days of D&D, Jim Ward really did author some excellent products. It's unfortunate that he's alienating so many these days.

It's unfortunate that apparently he was abducted by aliens who wanted to design games to help take over the world, so they drained all his old designing genius.

GASP!

That's where Monte Cook came from! I must warn the world!

Judging by people's reaction (IMHO) to Jim's last artical I, it would seem to me that people are over reacting to his 900 words.

Just because he describes himself as a "Trained Gaming Professional" means just that. And a fail to see that he means that he thinks that he's better than anyone.

But it seems that he is willing to fight back a little with reviewers and that (IMHO) is a good thing. I have often felt that the reviews I have been reading have been flacid of late and I agree with Jim in stating ; "If you haven't actually tried using the rules, you haven't actually reviewed the product."

(IMO) I would like my reviews alittle more like a Consumer Reports. I would like to see a review that included ease of use, and satisfaction after use of the product. I would like to see if the product could be reused buy the same gaming group more than once. I would like to see reports of proper rule knowledge. I would also like to see if the product is physically put together well and in a manner that allows some long life.

I would hold forth that there are some things that I disagree with Jim about; art and layout are important.

Honestly, I haven't brought myself to buy a product that has art on it that looks like a "Maxim" ad. That's my hangup, and I may have missed out on something good, but that's just me.

I have also little interest in purchacing something that is hard on my eyes when reading it. So I feel that too should be graded on.

Yup. It's his website, and he's entitled to his opinion. Unlike his last rant, I find less to be bothered by, here. There's no direct attack, and I vote with my dollars. FFE's product dissuaded me before Jim Ward ever did. Perhaps his material may appeal to some, but I'm not one of them....and there is enough high-quality material that I dont have to settle for a product of inconsistent quality.

Mind you, if he has a full time staff of artists and graphic designers, what do they do - sit around and decide whether to use Bookman 18 or Bookman 24? The only thing I've noticed about FFE's material is a sincere desire to pad hard-cover books by using fonts for the vision impaired.
