DON'T tie your horses to a tree near Griffon Mountain while you go climbing it to catch a griffon.....

..the party had to drag the griffon they actually caught back home across a distance of 10 miles, after it's cousins had spotted some tasty treats tied to a tree...

I love mounted characters, but I've actually found that the best way to play them is to get a small character riding a well trained badger or something.

They can go anywhere normal sized characters can go often at better speeds, they get all the nice mounted combat feats, and their mounts are often more fearsome and bitey.

Seriously made me consider the possibilities of mounted gnome and halfling societies.
