July 27. Gary Gygax Day?

Blackrat

He Who Lurks Beyond The Veil
It will be a long way to get this announced as a world wide holiday but as gamers we should nominate a Gary Gygax Day. He deserves one as much as anyone. As I think we should remember him by his life more than his death I nominate July 27 (his birthday) as Gary Gygax Day.

The man who brought us D&D, Legendary Journeys 'Roleplaying Mastery' and so much more deserves all the recognition we can give him

All game companies and all avid gamers really do owe some sort of homage to the originator of the basic framework of how all the games work.

Count me on board for EGG Day!

I think it is a little macabre to celebrate death... like dead-elvis week in Memphis TN. Celebrating his life... on the other hand, is more fitting.

I think this has to be done in either of these ways:

- Rename GM Day to Gygax Day, when we celebrate our friends who work so hard to entertain us, starting with the very first GM.

or

- Move GM Day to match Gary's birthday.

Due to the what-are-the-odds event of Gary passing away on the day we celebrate GMs, I favor the former. We'd not be celebrating his death, but rather use the date to celebrate his life's work. After all, every GM out there is one of Gary's powergaming scions (to use a quote from diaglo).

Considering that Gary passed on March 4, GM's DAY, that seems like an appropriate time to mark the event.

This seems a good idea to me, certainly. GM's Day is only a few years old but this certainly cemented the event in my head! And what better day to recognize the hard work of GMs than a day connected to what someone else called on this forum "The Dungeon Master Prime"?

There's already a holiday of sorts on this day - it seems prudent to have it serve double duty. ;-)
