"Marshall, Will and Holy on a routine expedition, and the greatest earthquake ever known. High on the rapids, it tossed their tiny craft, plunging down to a thousand feet below. To the land of the lost. The Land of the Lost."

I couldn't resist. OP triggered a dormant memory and a musical interlude. (I hope I got it right - just by memory)

- Plesiosaurs ("Loch Ness Monster") in the ocean ... maybe the lakes, too. Make sure they have a "Swallow Whole" ability.
- Proto-birds jumping out of trees at you, very colorful flying squirrel -style. They try to dig the rations out of your backpack, not attack YOU
- One island is even farther back in time: giant insects predominate. Dragonflies as long as your arm, a millipede that can knock you down flat, a crab-beastie the size of a wagon wheel
- If you somehow take a seedling back "home" with you, it grows and spreads wildly. When your whole mansion is overgrown, it starts getting warmer and wetter on the grounds...

Did someone say.... Dinosaurs?

So naturally if you're going back in time, remember that prehistoric times weren't just a dinosaur theme park. Sure, there were a lot, but they weren't the only things around. Please consider the following

Birds should be around, depending on the time, but co-existing with pterosaurs
Herbivores aren't pleasant just because they eat plants. A Triceratops is exactly as likely to charge you and gore you as anything else
Brontosaurus is back! Also evidence suggests it used its neck like a weapon. A giant, effective weapon
Crocodilians came in ridiculous forms during this time. The giant ocean-going croc Deinosuchus ate sea turtles, for example
T-Rex is big and scary, sure. But it can't fly. Hatzegopteryx could fly and would have considered adventurers prime eating material. Also consider Hatzeg's friends, Quetzalcoatlus and Arambourgiana, which were, y'know, giraffe sized
I'm just going to put another link about Arambourgiania because they're giraffe sized giant flying things
Remember that dinosaurs didn't just have jungles. They lived in deserts, in swamps, in the vast polar forests that no longer exist. Dinosaur island should have varied terrain

As the toitle syas. I want some mechanical effects of a demi plane a'la The Isle of Dread. Pity I can't use demiplane of dread name.

Key ideas.

Prison plane
Tropical
Volcanoes
Primitive
Slow rest rates unless you can get to safe areas (points of light)
"Intelligent" races are lizard men, and reptilian Ogre/Hill giant types and croc men. Other reptile men might be identical stat wise to Orcs etc.
Dinosaurs
Survival is difficult
Most Humans/elves etc are criminals or their descendants.
Certain magic may not work (ie creation spells).
Demiplane is dimensionally locked. Spells like teleport, plane shift etc do not work. You can get out through a shadow gate with an artefact.
Raging storm cross the land

So if you have a name for the plane or suggetions on mechanics for the plane help me out. The idea is to be quite nasty (think tropical Darksun).

"The Forbidden Plateau"

Deadly celestial guardians stand watch over the few entry/exit points, only letting those wearing feather-totem headdresses with a full spectacular range of large plumage to pass.

The rainbow-hued headdresses are traded as political play pieces similar to wampum belts in the colonization of North America.

Tropical environments breed disease. And killer mosquitos.

Unless you're in a sanctuary, making camp requires a group check to avoid hazards like concealed strange-grass, quicksand, man-eating venus fly traps, fire ant mounds, etc, and to make sure your temporary shelter will buffer any storms.

For your croc men...Egyptian Adventures: Hamunaptra had a "sobekhi" race that might fit & Al-Qadim: Ruined Kingdoms had the "segarran" race.

How does Handle Animal work with dinosaurs? Failing a check by 5+ means the dino tries to eat you!

Giant orchids release somnambulant pheromones that cause guards to wander from their posts at night.

Magic to discern a creature's background/motives/intentions (e.g. zone of truth) fails outright, or perhaps universally paints even earnest creatures in the most malign light possible, since everyone has the the heart of a criminal...according to the plane's creator.

The storm is actually bound to a cursed undead creature or tribe of creatures who wander the land seeking forever to escape the storm, but instead bringing destruction wherever they go.
