Just got Dragon 315 - Campaign Classics

Slightly off-topic, but I'm waiting on my first subscription issue of Dragon... & waiting... & waiting....

Is it normal for some people to have their issues so early while others still haven't received them, or should I contact Paizo to see what's up?

Just got my subscription issue yesterday. Sometimes I receive it one or two days after people start discussing it on the boards, this time it was six days (12/5 to 12/10, inclusive). Occasionally, it is a little later than that. For me, four to seven days seems average.

I don't know if this is Paizo's fault, the post office's, or someone elses. Personally, I'd wait another week before becoming concerned.

Did you think it was well-balanced? The old sha'ir from 2nd Edition was a bit strong at higher levels, but horribly weak at lower levels, even weaker than a normal 2nd ed magic user.

I thought they did a good job of it. But balanced. I'd have to see it in play a bit to make that call. It looked like it to me though.

I just got my subscription copy today, 6 days after it showed up in the stores. This is typical of the recent issues.

Erik Mona of Paizo Publishing just posted on the thread about Dungeon being late that the snafu was that there was a minor publishing error, and correcting caused a delay of about a week. Since that week is about up, the late issues should be arriving any day now.

It's not that there was a publishing error so much as a foul-up in the process that resulted in a couple-day delay, which then put off shipping until after Thanksgiving.

But same difference, really.

How 'bout that awesome Greyhawk article in Dragon #315?

I couldn't tell you. Mine hasn't arrived yet.

[But it's cool. No worries.]

There's one really bad hit at the start that my wife pointed out — it costs 100 gp to get a gen familiar, as per sorcerers and wizards, but the sha'ir needs his gen to get spells.

Ouch.

So if you don't start the game properly subsidized, a first-level sha'ir is going to have to rely on his +0 BAB and simple weapons to earn that first 100 gp. I'd personally let a first-level sha'ir just start with a gen for free; it's not that big an advantage over a regular sorcerer/wizard, and it sure beats a player having to start at the most vulnerable portion of his career with the additional handicap of being a spellcaster with no access to spells.

Apart from that, it looks pretty dang cool.

i appreciated the map of Castle Ravenloft.

i ran my Star Wars game tonight. on my way out the door, i noticed my issue of Dragon magazine in the mailbox, so i grabbed it and brought it along to the game.

my players were assaulting an evil warlord's palace this session, and i managed to forget my maps of the place! then, during a break before they actually got to the palace, i opened Dragon and started thumbing through it... and came across the floorplans of Castle Ravenloft!

so Castle Ravenloft is now the home of an evil warlord on a distant planet a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... ;)

Would that be Darth Strahd or Count Dooku von Zarovich? ;)
