I'm really sorry to hear about this. The thought of drunk driving just makes me sick. I knew a couple of folks who boasted that they drove drunk lots of times (unfortunately, it was never around me, so I couldn't intervene). It was almost like they were proving how "in control" they were, because they could operate a vehicle while three-sheets-to-the-wind. Luckily for other drivers on the road, they never caused an accident, but I fear that it's only a matter of time until they do.
I remember several years ago, I was out late driving with friends in Jacksonville, NC. We drove by the scene of a car accident. One car was upside down in a ditch, and the other was smashed beyond recognition.
The next day while watching the news, I learned the cause of the accident: a drunk driver had smashed into the car of a woman who had her newborn baby in the back seat. Mom and baby were killed and the drunk driver walked away with a few broken bones. After hearing that, I felt nauseous all day, and I still get choked up thinking about it.
