Just saw the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries!

Hey all,

Just thought I'd post my thoughts on the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries done by the SciFi Channel. Space: The Imagination Station (Canada) just broadcast the two-parter tonight.

And all I can say is...

WOW!!!

It was awsome! And I didn't even mind the "obvious" changes they made to a few of the main characters. I won't post spoilers for those that haven't seen it yet.

This new incarnation of the show has me excited for the continuing series. They've made 6 episodes, correct?

The battle sequeneces were great. Very old school science fiction meets new special effects technology.

Cheers!

13 completed episodes with another 6 ordered. I have been quite enjoying it as well, and look forward to the North American airing.

They've made 13 episodes so far. Nine have been aired in the UK and are
easily available for download online in places I'm sure to know nothing of.

And yeah, it's really good. It gets better. It's kinda 24 meets Stargate: SG-1.

As a remake/reimagining it fails in every regard. A remake's goal should be,
over all, to update and modernize while keeping faithful to the themes and
feel of the original. BG2003 does not do this. It keeps some of the plots, but
throws out the space fantasy feel and new age-y mormon spiritual themes
in favour of a more modern high-tech-navy feel and more general 'Does-Gawd
-Exist-And-What-Is-The-Nature-Of-Humanity' themes.

Luckily, the original sucked some sour sheep balls, so all is forgiven.

Whatever. Most folks who were alive and watching the show before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye feel quite the other way. If the series was anything remotely like the miniseries, it'll suck.

If they were going to go so far off course, they should of just moved on and actually thought up something interesting and original instead of raping.

I agree that they may have avoided some fallout by calling it something different, but that's about the only criticism I can level at it. In its own right, it is a damnably good show, and the existence of the original does not take anything away from that.

For that matter, this takes nothing away from the original, either. Both exist separately.

From my impressions, just as many people who watched the original feel the first series was awful as people who really liked it. But that's just my impression. I was kinda young when it was on the air and it never blew me away.

Indeed. It is a dangerous argument to make when beginning any statement with something amounting to "Most people feel...". Granted it may be true that most people you've spoken with dislike the series, but I find that human beings tend to group together, online or off, with those of similar opinions. Sort of the same way we often base our estimates of people's intelligence on how much they agree with our own opinions.

I find the series to be some of the best sci-fi I've ever seen. I've enjoyed some moments from the original, and do not consider it a waste by any means. It is also true that I was not alive when it was filmed, but I do not believe it makes my enjoyment of this new series any less valid. Nor do I feel it invalidates anyone else's dislike. One of the wonderful choices we have in television viewing is the option to turn the set off.

Hey, a lot of people like sour sheep balls. It's a national dish here.

But I don't.

Time and Ratings...

Well, we all will see if the BG can withstand the test...of staying in or going out. And for the record, I am one of those who saw the original, yeah, I was young then ;), I love all things sci fic.

Second, sour sheep balls is really a dish? :D
