A dagger and a katar are different weapons.

As for str/dex rogues, I was thinking of making a really dumb build at one stage:
Take riposte strike and quick draw.
Poke 'em with your dagger, then use a minor to sheathe it.
Riposte with a greataxe!
Next round, sheathe greataxe, quickdraw dagger and poke. use move action to sheathe dagger ...

edit:
I do realise riposte says you have to be wielding a light blade ... still funny tho

Reasons to use a Katar-

1. You are a rogue, and want to upgrade your main weapon.
2. You are a halfling.

The rapier may be a better upgrade to a rogue's main weapon than the katar, but the difference is not great enough to be a major concern.

My rogue player is curious if the Katar is still considered a dagger for +1 to hit from rogues.

Nah, I knew it wasn't, I was just commenting on the fact that technically speaking a Katar is a type of Dagger! ;)

3. You multiclass into rogue and need a good light blade?
