Kevin Smith review of Revenge of the Sith - Spoiler Filled

Simply put, he thinks it is MUCH, MUCH better than the other two Prequels.

Now, truthfully, he did enjoy the other two, but not as much as the originals. This one, he says is the best of the Prequels and a great movie. Very, very dark, too. Very dark. Dark dark. Very.

Overally, I'd say that's good to hear, since Smith is as much a fan as any. :)

And here's an example of his viewpoint, taken from the second paragraph of his review.

This is the "Star Wars" prequel the haters have been bitching for since "Menace" came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying.
He's coming strictly from the fanboy camp ("haters"), and isn't a good point of reference for those who disliked the previous two movies.

Anyone want to post a discussion of what Smith thought of it, with spoilers removed, for those of us who want to hear what he has to say, but are avoiding spoilers?

Dunno how much work that would be, so I understand if nobody's up for it.
Here's the thick of it, O Dark Rodent:

- As dark as "Empire" was, this one is one thousand times darker.

- The projection he watched was digital, and he said it's a beautiful-looking film.

- The battles are the best in the entire series.

- Few and far between comic moments. The film is almost entirely dead serious.

- Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine) and Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan) steal the show, but Hayden Christensen silences naysayers who complained about his whining in AotC.

- The ties between Ep. III and the original trilogy are many, and fans will be pleased when catching onto them.

- Smith has anxously waited for the battle that will turn Anakin into Vader for 26 years. After seeing it, he thinks it totally lives up to his expectations.

- "Sith" rules.

Well, Ep I was probably the worst of the lot. Ep II was better. Maybe he's getting back into the swing of things, and Ep III he's "getting it" again? I don't know. I didn't think Ep I and II were as bad as some would have them. I hated Jar Jar, but he had a minimal presence in Ep II, *and* it was his blunder that helped lead to the Empire in the first place, which is actually rather funny IMO.

I'm hoping Ep III is even better. I'm not betting on it, but I'm hoping.

Episode I sucked, but II was much better. I bought the AotC DVD, but I tend to skip over anything with Anakin and Padme (which is actually a bad thing since they are the leads). Like you, I'm hoping that Lucas found whatever he lost since the original trilogy for Ep III.

I'll just be happy if Hayden Christensen turns in a better performance than the high school play level one of the last film.

And I really hope there's a resolution to the Jar-Jar story. I'm really hoping he turns evil. ;)

Personally, I'm hoping for the following scene:

Jar Jar: "Mesa been worrin about you Annie, yousa be actin bombad scary and. . ."
*sound of lightsaber firing up, Gungan sushi being prepared*
*sound of audience applauding*

Although George was merciful or wise enough to greatly reduce Jar Jar's screen time in Episode II to being a bit character (and giving the haters a real reason to hate him, he's the technical reason Palpatine was given absolute power.)

I'm a little fuzzy on the timeline for the movies... AFAIK, ep3 ends with the birth of Luke and Leia... ep4 takes place about 18-20 years later (I'm guessing at Luke's age here). It seems to me there's a whole lot going on in between the movies hinted at the beginning of ep4: the rise of the Rebellion, their first victory against the Empire, and the stealing of the Death Star's plans (which, apparently, also takes about 20 years to build). Ever wonder if George will spring an 'out of sequence' movie on us sometime to cover all this?
