Kyton - how to attack with it?

I would pay to see the look on the face of those endless fighter rogues around here wielding spiked chains in their first kyton encounter ...

"Ok, your flaming frost +3 spiked chain wraps around you...."

not to open up a semantic arguement

Too late. Your intentions are clear. ;)

by your rational a spike chain is a spiked chain. And a spiked chain is not a chain, its a spiked chain.

No. That's not my rationale at all. You're simplifying it too much, which is why it looks totally silly. :D

Actually, dkilgo and I talked about this last night, and we came up with a nasty idea of a Greater Kyton, or something like that. I'm hoping he'll post it up in the House Rules thread.

The chain is an attended item, and a magic one at that, so at the very least, I think a save is appropriate.

First, I am glad that you enjoyed messing with you player's mind like that with the kytons.

Secondly, heading in the semantic route, I still believe that the kyton should be able to use his gifts on regular chain mail.

Thirdly, I will be attempting to create a bigger, better, badder, kyton to foil the attempts of my players. And yes, I will post it on the house rules when I get it done. For all of you to look at.

One of my favorite things to do with kytons (though rather unoriginal) is give them rogue levels and a roomful of chains. It's tough not to be flanked by some of them, and they would inflict sneak attack damage. Nasty. :)

Nasty!!!

I had never thought of adding some rogue levels to them, but seems effective.

The only question I would have is would the animated chains get flank, or even get sneak attack?

I would think not, but I am not quite sure.
