Leadership Feat

That's a good point. Maybe there should be a minimum Cha requirement? You're not going to have anyone follow you if you have a crazy low Cha.
That's why I put my CHA reqs in my version - I don't think it's wrong to change the base stats for Leadership, but I'd want to make sure that people are either paying out the nose (not the best alternative IMO) or make sure they were focused on some sort of "leaderly" activity.

I think the static bonus to the Leadership score works too though.

... How about a requirement of Skill Focus (Diplomacy)? It kind of encourages Cha usage, still.

There are several examples of feats which change the way another part of the game works (i.e. basing something off an alternative statistic). In "balance" terms I have fewer issues with a feat that allows Leadership to be based on Intelligence than a feat that bases it on Strength . . .

No way. There's a reason high-Int wizards tend to make friends (golems, zombies, etc.) more often than they actually make friends. It's a good stereotype, and the mechanics represent it well.

I totally agree. People rather fear intelligent persons than follow them.

The best exemple that come in my mind is Merlin and Arthur, everybody would follow arthur in battle because he have a huge charismatic abilities.

Everybody respect merlin as a wise adviser, but i don't think they will follow him in battle.

Gandalf in Lord of the ring, look more charismatic then merlin, he was able to lead troop in the siege of Gondor at the capital.

Your leadership score is based off of Intelligence instead of Charisma.

What do you think?

Another comment about the feat leadership.

Personnaly i don't use this feat, every hero (PC) in my campaign could attract follower without the feat if they do heroic deeds and have a reputation.

I don't really like to tie the reaction of NPC to a feat. I mean Bob the fighter doesn't care if you have the feat or not, he want to follow you because you just killed a dragon and save the whole town.

I use the information in the feat as reference to known how much follower he could attract.

I don't think being willing to fight for someone is the only indicator of a high Charisma. People followed Arthur into battle because he was a great warrior as well as a highly charismatic individual. People took Merlin's advice because he was a sage as well as a highly charismatic individual.

That makes sense, and it's a shame that Leadership can only be picked up by characters of 6th level or higher. It makes the whole idea of someone with wealth and connections leaving their lives of comfort and prestige for the harsh, dangerous life of an adventurer less likely. It's not a huge loss, mind you, but it does sort of limit options on what type of characters you can play aside from "adventurers" in the ordinary sense.

Of course that following in battle is not the only way of charisma. Maybe i made a mistake to use famous character in my example, because we have all different perception from book and movies.

My point is.. will you trust, give your life willingly to the cause of someone who is very intelligent but not charismatic at all ? The normal people would follow the most charismatic people, even if they are mad or stupid. The story of humankind have show many time that we follow leader and not the most intelligent people available over the age.

How many leader not that much intelligent in our history have been great leader, they had very high charisma, and good adviser. Also many charismatic leader convince people to do horrible thing, even if this was stupid.

Anyway this my personnal opinion i expect people to think otherwise.
