Oh don't get me started with your nonsense, DeWar! We were making arcane spellcasters who could cast any spell that they knew spontaneously if they had unused 'slots' available DECADES before the Sorcerer appeared. We just didn't know what a 'slot' was. Our ruling was that a magic-user could cast any spell that he knew in place of a spell of the same level that he had prepared. Of course, if he had a Fireball prepared, then that was what he had to cast first, but if he needed another one then he could cast it in place of any other 3rd level spell that he had prepared.I could never conceive that!
