I was thinking of D&D specialist wizards. So you'd have, say, an enchanter, who can't cast fireball, but he can spam charm on everyone (until the townsfolk eventually rise up and kill him).
I had been thinking that letting them potentially learn other wizard spells, if they could find them, would keep them from feeling super-constrained in theory, even if they are mostly so in practice. (If that enchanter wants to cast fireballs, they'll have to be willing to go dungeon crawling until they can find a scroll.)
Sorcerer:
For all intents and purposes you are a Wizard, except...
- You can't learn spells from scrolls
- When choosing a new spell, you may instead choose to roll a current spell with Advantage
