Lizardman question....

number6

First Post
I am going to be playing a lizardman barbarian as a henchman of a kobold sorcerer soon (in a Ravenloft campaign no less) and I am wondering wether lizardmen get low-light vision or darkvision or wether perhaps they just have normal (i.e. close to human) vision. Neither ability is listed for the lizardmen in the new Monster Manual but it also states that a third of their population lives in air-filled underwater caverns...which would be very tricky indeed if they did not have darkvision but do-able considering they do have acess to very basic technology....and perhaps eternal light spells from their shamans. Any info and sources so I can convince my GM that I am not making this up would be greatly appreciated.

Nope- they have neither. Most monster types state something to the effect that "Monstrous humanoids/undead/magical beasts, etc have darkvision to a range of 60 feet" or whatever in the front of the MM where it details each Type.

Humanoids have no such descriptor and each humanoid entry details whether the race has low-light or darkvision.

Check the goblin (page 107) it lists "darkvision 60 ft". Check the dwarf, elf, kobold. They all list darkvision or low-light vision.

Also note that air-filled undewater caverns are not necessarily entirely devoid of light. Water scatters light a great deal compared to air, so direct light is not as necessary, as long as you're not so far down that too much light is absorbed (which does happen fairly quickly).
