Looking for a game and introducing myself

Myth and Legend

First Post
Hello everyone. I am happy that i found this wonderful community, and i hope to have fun roleplaying here. I am somewhat new to this, so whomever decides to take me in their game will have to bear with me for a while :) I have played cRPGs like Baldur's Gate, TOEE etc. and beat them more than once. I love writing (even though English is not my native language), and i dare say I am good at roleplaying. What i have little experience are all the DnD books, prestige classes and such. But I can learn.

I am playing in a DnD 3.5 campaign right now on another forum and i wanted to join a message board with experienced players and DMs. In short, i know the rules, i know how to write and RP, i am 23 and enjoy RPing for the sake of RPing, not making demigod characters, and if a patient DM can answer the occasional question (I still try taking 20 in some dumb situations, but hey everybdy learns) i think i can be a good assest to a campaign.

So, my only preference is that we play DnD 3.5, and that it's the Forgotten Realms. Anywhere is fine, and though i have read about the geography of Toril and all the countries/locations I am sure you can pick a one better than i can :)

Well first off, welcome to the boards. Secondly, from what I can tell, you should fit in wonderfully here at the boards. Thirdly, I'm sorry to tell you that although I would very much like to tell you that I would gladly run a game for you, I have no talent for dungeon mastering. Still, I would happily play alongside you, and wish you the best of luck finding a game regardless.

Also, while you're here, I would encourage you to expand your horizons for roleplaying whenever possible. A few different systems run here, and everyone is generally nice enough to explain things to someone new. Its the good roleplaying that's hard to come by.

Then again, I could just be leading a sheltered existence here myself...

Well then, thanks for the kind words  I am sure I will try different RP systems/settings etc. But DnD is what got me in to this in the first place, and now that i've tasted real roleplaying (where it's so much fun to play a Bard for example, convincing slow witted Barbarians to carry your sack) i want to go trough a Forgotten Realms/Faerun campaign before i start spicing up my RP life :) I'd be happy to play with you as well, hopefully a skilled DM will see our pleas and decide to indulge us..

A suggestion: since there are obviously many more players looking for a game than DMs running them, you should probably look for Recruitment threads in this forum and propose yourself following the DM's requests. It's not very likely that some DM will call you when he gets a game going, especially since you're new here.
Good luck and welcome ;)

Welcome to the boards, Myth and Legend. I think you'll find that you like it here. :)

With the introduction of 4E, I've seen a fall in how many 3.5 games are being played. Keep your eyes open, though. Most games that have been going for a while have PCs drop out every now and then, and the DM's will recruit players to take their place. It may take a while to find a game, but if you are willing to flexible, it shouldn't take too long.

Well i'm not a fan of 4e at all. It might be more balanced (not sure about that) but perfect balance between classes will never exist. Variety leads to different power levels, that is normal. I read in some reviews that the reign of high level arcane spellcasters is over wtih 4E rules. I say that it's the DM's job challange the players and balance them out, one doesn't need to murder gods and simplify alignments in the process of changing the rules, to get that effect. So from what i've read i probably won't give 4E a try unless everyone declares it vastly supperior to 3.5 and no one plays the old system any more.

Welcome to the boards Myth, echoing Rhun's comments there are fewer 3.5e games starting up and there were always few Faerunian adventures going than either homebrew's or Eberron (by my experience). If you're looking for a 3.5 game there is the "Living World", which is a homebrew setting created by community. It seems fairly active still, and they're always looking for new PC's.
