Looking for a Mapper

First Post
I'm hoping to find a free mapper that allows me to do something like a world map. I mainly just need to be able put down forest, mountans, major trade routs, major citys, and held territory at this point. Of course, I'm sure I'll need more later but, for now, this would be enough.

Anyone know of something like this. I don't have any money, so it'll have to be a free download. :(

Any help would be appreciated.

NBOS Software's Fractal Mapper is great. You can buy it from RPGNow.com or RPGShop.com (depending on whether you want to download it or have a CD mailed to you.)

The price is about $30. It took me a night of fiddling around to figure it out, but the results are great. They have examples at the NBOS site (www.nbos.com). I have one on my website at (http://www.mindspring.com/~bandora/Bandoranew.jpg).

Though my map has no real drawn features, you can easily do more traditional maps with tree, hill, mountain icons etc.

I wasn't happy with the price, but compared to Campaign Cartographer, it was tolerable. Also easier to learn than CC. And the results are top-notch, plus you can do sooooo much with it (including dungeons). So, NBOS was what I needed.

Autorealm is a good one also. Not as many features and such, but it makes useable maps at least and the price is right. I'd recommend at least TRYING autorealm before spending money on Fractal Mapper. It didn't do everything I needed it to, but it may well suit your needs.

Hope this helps!
