looking for a monster

Gilladian

I need an intelligent (or at least semi-intelligent), small, underground dwelling, preferably climbing, critter/race for 3rd edition.

I seem to remember reading about a cave-dwelling sort of spider-monkey in a book, but now I can't find it anywhere, and I need a similar type critter to fill in. I don't really care about CR or specific powers.

I've got most of the monster books for 3e, so if anyone can make any suggestions, please do!

What you're looking for is the Chitine. FR specific, but easily adapted to other settings. It can be found in Underdark (most recent version plus support in the form of equipment+PrC), or Monsters of Faerûn (older version).

The boggle is a pretty strange small humanoid-like creature with spindly limbs and a big head. It's not terribly bright, but has some oddball powers and some Climb ability. The "official" version is in MM2; the link goes to a pre-MM2 Creature Catalog conversion. (This 'unofficial' version also has spider climb as part of it's schtick.)

What kind of temperament are you looking for? Do you need something that's potentially a playable race, or just anything that organizes like a "race"?

hmmm... I was looking for a race that could occupy the ceiling of a cave system "above" a herd of gorgons, specifically. I want the PCs to at least have a chance to attempt to roleplay with them, whether or not they turn out to be intelligent enough to really do so. chitine look possible, chokers not really, boggles maybe with a bit of manipulation. Maybe something between boggles and chitine.
