Looking for a new campaign world

I have been running a FR campaign for the last two years and having a great time, but I am interested in trying something new. Obviously there is a lot of new d20 material out there and I was interested in hearing some opinions about other campaign worlds.

I am still interested in the High Fantasy level that the Realms presents but want to have a change...perhaps something darker. I am thinking about "shoving" my current party through a portal into another Prime Material Plane (they love their characters too much to start all over again), thus introducing them to a new world but also shocking them "just a bit."

Any thoughts, advice, and info. would be greatfully appreciated.

Scarred Lands is good, cheap and dark.

I'd make up my own world, if I were you. Don't make up the whole thing, no one has time for that, just enough to get going.

Running your own world is a blast, and you could make it as different from the Realms as you like.

You can use the REalms, just change some things. Make it darker.. Obviously tell the PCs what you've done and what you vision this to be like.

Making your own is also good. Start small and branch out.

How about Earth? Mythical Earth is perhaps the best fleshed out setting one could want, and it's massively diverse.

I have two suggestions.

Scarred Lands, or Dragonstar.

Never underestimate Dragonstar for a change! I just sent my low-tech PCs into it, and they have having a blast.

The Wheel of Time setting is wonderful, even if you don't like the books.

Doesn't really lend itself to porting existing characters over, though. No gods (Except the Creator and the Dark One, neither of whom would grant spells I wouldn't think), totaly different magic system, etc.

Same reason I didn't suggest Soveriegn Stone, my personal favorite.
