looking for a new system

Our gaming group is homebrewing a simple D6 dicepool system as an alternative to d20.

Everything's a skill. Buy skill dice. Roll skill dice. Take highest. Add stat modifier.

Pretty simple. The only real complexity is coming up with skills and magic items.

Eventually, when we finish the write-up, I'll post it online somewhere.

A third vote for true20

It's already d20 based, so it's easy to pick up. And it's alot more adaptable than other rules light d20 systems.

Mutants and Masterminds 2e is a fantastic system that fits your criteria. Character creation is a bit time consuming, but once you get past that it is lightning fast.

Another vote for True20 (either core True20 or Blue Rose, enough diferences to show how it can be modified for specific setting/genre sub-type).

And converting stuff from other source books you already possess for D20 means you already have plenty of resources to plop in at your leisure.

If you're seriously considering GURPS of any flavor, take a look at Hero, too. It can be made complex, but running a standard power level game can also be pretty simple. Hero is just as flexible as GURPS, and (IMO) a much better system. The worst part of it is that the book reads like an encyclopedia -- of course, that makes 5E an improvement over 4E that read like a dictionary.

Curious how the OP has two different threads asking the same question and one is heavy with the Castles and Crusades awesomeness and this one is heavy with True20.

Thats OK, Castles and Crusades will fulfill his needs better than True20 and Savage Worlds too. All are excellent systems, they will just have to decide which sounds like it will suite them best.

If he liked 1E C&C will most likely appeal to him best. We have the fun of 1E with the rules strength of d20 3E, but easier and simpler than either True20 or Savage Worlds, and just as much versatility. The SIEGE engine approach of C&C is just phenomonal in its flexibility and adapatability.

True20 is a rules lite version with a lot of cool ideas and cool supporting material.

Savage World, I don't know so much about, I know some C&Cers that say they like it and would have no problem playing it again.

The good thing is the OP really can't go wrong. Everyone is suggesting good stuff.

The bad thing is everyone is suggesting good stuff, making it a very hard decision.

My decision was/is C&C, and I feel like I did 20 years ago when I first started playing. So I definitely made the right choice for me.
