I read an online article within the last two months. It talked about the the olden days of gaming and the excitement of finding that +1 longsword and that it really meant something. I wanted to show my players this article but have been unable to find it. I have checked Treasure Tables, RPG Tips, Creative Mountain Games, Shreynolds.com, Gaming Report, ENWorld, Game Mechanics and others and have been unable to find it. The only other thing I can remember about the article is that I was surprised to see it published where it was. Any help finding this article would gain great amounts of gaming karma. And you'd not only be helping this DM but his players too. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me. :)

Sorry I can't help you with your quest. But whatever it says, its too late. That sort of Senseowonder comes early on in one's gaming life, and few manage to hang onto it for very many years. If you and/or your players have lost it, it will be very difficult to get it back. :(

Thanks but that is not the issue at all. We have been gaming since the beginning and I am contrasting that article with typical play with a few other articles. We have not lost our sense of wonder about any of it. Wierd. We should have.

Yup. It's still there, but a bit weaker.

Sounds like something Monte Cook may have written.

Its easy to restore. Don't give them any magic items until about 10th level. Don't give them time to make any until then either.

The wonder and appreciation will overwhelm you.

I read something similar to this written on the Dungeoneer RPG message board (at Goodman Games):

The bonus to hit, the bonus to damage and the ability to harm those wights without wasting our precious silver arrows was very important. That +1 sword meant the world to us. It was a thin shining sliver of metal that held back the darkness of the dungeon. When its wielder died at the hands of a wight, I still remember the feeling of awe I experienced as I pried that +1 sword out of his clammy grasp and continued the mad rush forward. Now with the awesome power of the +1 sword in my own hands, I went into a frenzy. When the previous wielder of the sword rose again as a wight behind me, I cut him down like a sapling and then began a happy hackfest among the remainder of our foes. A few lucky die rolls later, I stood alone upon a huge pile of dismembered wights.

I was 10 years old.
