Looking to make Egypt-like fantasy world

DWARF

First Post
I'm beginning to wrap up a current campaign of mine and are looking forward to a new one.

To that end, I've decided to switch settings... and to a small extent games. I'm now thinking of doing an Arcana Unearthed game run in a fantasy ancient-egypt world. Now, what kind of resources are out there either on the actual egypt, or some fantasy version of it.

I currently own Legends and Lore, so have their take on the Egyptian pantheon, but what else is there?

Thanks

Al-Quadim, perhaps. I know a topic exactly like this was posted a while back. I suggest using the search function to find it. It was filled with information.

There was a thread recently giving advice on Egypt books.

People recommended the following:

Testament
GURPS Egypt

Necropolis is also good.

Also, hit your local library and do a quick search on their computers for Egypt. I'm sure you'll find plenty of info there.

... does anyone remember having to shuffle through card files anymore?

I'll add my agreement to Johns and Nightfall here.

Necropolis by Necromancer Games (Sword & Sorcery Studios) is an excellent supplement. It's a campaign for 10th level characters, but includes a wealth of setting info on an Egyptian style area....Combine that with the Egyptian Pantheon, and you should have a great start.

I'm assuming you're doing Pharonic Egypt not Helenized Egypt, Roman Egypt, Byzantine Egypt or Muslim Egypt. If that's the case, go buy Testament by Green Ronin. It covers the region and the period you want but from the Hebrew viewpoint.

I think Fus, by the fact he mentioned Legends and Lore, he's going for a Pharohic type deal. Even so while I have nothing against Testment, I do think Necropolis suits that particular frame.

I was going to ask this exact same question; do you mean Pharoanic Egypt, or some other version? GURPS Egypt is probably you're best bet for gamish stuff. There's nothing like non-game resources, though. There's a lot of really weird ideas out there, though -- like evidence that the Sphinx was built thousands of years before the Pharoahs when the climate was rainy and fertile rather than dusty and dry at Giza, for instance.

To me, the romantic attraction of Egypt is the mystery that all the years seperation have given it. I'd definately try to retain that feel somehow.

An interesting period of history for Egypt would be the "cold war" with the Hittites that erupted at Qadesh. Shortly after that was the religious upheavel of Akhenaton. I read a book that hypothesises that Tutankhamen was murdered by dissidents, which is a fascinating idea. And the invasions of the Sea Peoples a little bit later is another fascinating idea for an ancient Egypt campaign.
