Okay, seriously...

It's not "historic" Egypt, in that we don't claim that this is set on Earth during some mythic period. However, it is very much Egyptian. Very heavy historical and cultural research went into this, and anything that we didn't feel needed to change for the good of the setting is based, as much as possible, on that research.

Think of it this way...

Al-Qadim wasn't "historical" Arabia, but there was no mistaking the Arabic feel. We went that route, but with even more emphasis on the historic aspects.
