I just checked the Wizards site and the thread about 'Fighter's Maneuvers' has beem deleted. I was lurking on their site watching this thread go along and as usual, whenever a lot of people start saying negative things about 4th edition it gets erased instead of locked. What exactly is Wizards trying to accomplish with the whole "delete it before too many people read it" mindset? Are they afraid people are going to read it and go "yeah that's right"?

I'm glad Enworld doesn't do this. That's why I don't post on Wizards site anymore.

I guess the Wizards Community moderators don't like threads being used as edition war battlegrounds any more than EN World moderators do.

I like the phrasing of the thread title. Like all of WotC sits around a table in a dimly lit room, like some shadowy cabal straight out of the very game they're writing. "They know too much," one says in a hissing whisper. "Eliminate them!" another commands.

But yeah it's probably more like a moderator there thinks a thread went totally off the rails so it's removed to keep the atmosphere more welcoming and friendly.

So why not just lock the thread and be done with it? You delete what you don't want others to read.

While I do agree it is the probably the wrong way to handle an edition war (deleting the thread), I think you are reading way too much into things. But if it was WoTC high-ups who ordered a thread to be deleted, I am okay with it. It's their forums, why should they allow excessive bad-mouthing of their product on their own forums? Let the nay-sayers go elsewhere, if that is what they need to do.

Also, your comparison with ENworld doesn't hold up. You would need to be complaining a lot about how :):):):):):) something ENworld is making (and thus earn money from) in order for a full comparison. For example, you could make a thread about how hopeless the math in "What is NEW is OLD" is, how absurdly clunky many of the rules are, or how poorly the fluff is written. Now, fair warning, just the other day, Russ closed a thread because some guy was asking about the competition, ie another forum. So he might surprise you, if you go all out about something that earns him money.

And before anyone comes to defend What is NEW is OLD: I was just making a point. I have no opinion on the game whatsoever, as I haven't read anything from it.

Good idea. I think I will.

By no means is WotC above criticism, but threads here griping about their moderation policies are not useful for anything other than stiffing up acrimony. This thread has already gotten personal, and has seen foul language used, in under 10 posts. Rather than wait for it to degenerate into flames, I'm just going to lock this.

*Thunk*.
