Lost 05/16/07 "Greatest Hits"

And seriously, what the f*** was up with killing off Nikki and Paulo?! Apparently the fans didn't like them being introduced? (huh?) Can we please effin' stop killing off characters for no good reason?

Actually, I believe that was the planned storyline for Nikki and Paulo all along. A silly and pointless bit of story, IMO (even if I have come to appreciate and like the "play within a play" elements of it in retrospect), but the intended story for that arc.

[EDIT- Actually just read an article at Entertainment Weekly online where the creators admitted scuttling a longer N/P story arc due to low ratings and viewer disillusionment with the characters. Not sure how I feel about that- on the one hand, thought their story and characters were kind of dumb, didn't like the mean-spiritedness of the ending, though I did appreciate the elements I mentioned above; at the same time, had they actually completed what they had planned, maybe it would have felt more organic and interesting. We'll never know now, though.]

I'd forgotten she mentioned that it was flooded- I was going to say that they probably hadn't been abandoned until Locke blew up the sub (after all, they could have used the sub to travel to the hatch down there whenever they wanted- presumably that was one of its many functions, aside from just transport to the island).
Yeah, this would actually make the most sense, that these are Others stranded on the station since the sub blew up.

I'm thinking that Charlie may yet die by drowning, since Desmond's visions have been pretty accurate so far. We don't actually know that the yellow button does specifically - perhaps pressing it will flood the station, and that will cause the jamming to stop, and drown Charlie (and the Others holding him captive).

BTW, am I the only person who thought "it's the One Ring!" when Charlie's brother gave that thing to him? :)
LOL you weren't alone. I kept thinking of how Pip like he was being the whole episode.

While I very much like the show now, I am really disappointed at how often the writers seem to abandon plans because actors leave the show, or because they haven't planned things enough.

I mean, argh, I was actually having trouble sleeping last night because thoughts kept running through my head about how the show could have been better. Whatever happened to the ominous "We're going to have a Locke problem" from the end of season 1? And what about that army Ana-Lucia was supposed to build? How about the mystery of Libby being in Hurley's mental institution? Oh, and they go through a big broughaha to save Eko, only to have him die in the next episode?!

And seriously, what the f*** was up with killing off Nikki and Paulo?! Apparently the fans didn't like them being introduced? (huh?) Can we please effin' stop killing off characters for no good reason?

They killed off Boone well, I felt. When Shannon died it moved the story forward, and it made you realize that, oh, characters can die before the end of the season. Sure, that's fine, but please don't kill off characters when their backstories are left hanging.

Apparently they were planning to kill Ana-Lucia, which I'm fine with. It was a surprise, and her story had been well wrapped up. I mean, hell, I think Ana-Lucia's death is the only one of the show I do like.

But they killed Libby because they thought the fans wouldn't care enough about Ana-Lucia's death, and they wanted more impact. They killed Eko because the actor's parents died and he wanted to do other things. They killed Nikki and Paulo because ratings were bad and fans online are apparently morons.

I mean, dang it, the best part of this show is finding out about the mysteries of the characters, and seeing their story arcs. It's bloody frustrating.
Wow, when you put it like this, it makes me think the writers are really DMs. Think about it, you have certain set things that you'd like to see happen and stuff comes up, so you have to rearrange and the plot from before is no where near what you wanted when you stared out.

LOL. "Well, Michelle Rodriguez didn't show up for the game today, so her character- Ana Lucia- is going to get killed off tonight. I realize we can't always make it to all sessions, people, but give us a little advance warning would you?"

Nah, I think Ana's the ahole you have to kick out of your group for always coming to the game high and drunk and peeving everyone off

(don't act like you've never had this player)

Eko's the guy who had to leave to handle family issues (this always happens to me).

Walt's the highschooler who now has to go to college :(.

Libby's the person whom leaves because her friend the pot smoker got booted.

Boone is the guy who comes to the first few games and then decides that your style is not for him, you hve time to plan for this though, so this is no biggy. You even write temporary on your character notes of him.

Did anyone think that Charlies ring didn't look like a hand me down from several generations. It looked like some Rockers ring.

*waves at Andrew* :)

So is Michael the guy that starts out playing with the group, then decides he's too cool/mature for RPGs and leaves to do "real" things? :)
