Lost 12/08/04

I REALLY like Charlie (my fav character after Locke) but I agree, he should have died. It would have given you more a feeling that nobody is safe, everyone is expendable. That said, we already know that at LEAST one of the main characters is supposed to die before the season ends, according to what I read on AintItCoolNews a while back.

Of all the characters who's backgrounds we haven't heard about yet, Hurley definitely ranks #1 for me right now. "something of a warrior" indeed, I think the chances of him being a gamer are pretty good, or maybe he was into LARPs, reenactments or something? Jack's background is very interesting and fit with the episode well but I expected them to not explore the same character more than once, at least until the second season. Clearly I was wrong.

No new episodes until after the holidays ... this is going to be hard. :)

RE: Locke doubters ... according to an aintitcoolnews interview with the creator a while back, Locke was likened to Walter of The Stand and The Dark Tower fame, (+ many other Stephen King books), that should provide some hints as to where his character is going ... or maybe not.

Okay, so do we know that Charlie is ALIVE? Sure, we saw it BUT is it Charlie, could it not be something else? “I don’t remember anything…” :) Actions equal results, Jack was told it would happen and we do not even know if Ethan was a bad guy…

Hurley and his line about the kid getting his $20,000, I think his background is going to be interesting.

The kid and his dice roles?

Sawyer and Sayid, interchange and a change in their relationship? Sawyer is becoming my favorite character. Sawyer’s line about using a fake name, what does he know…

What did Boone and Locke find? I am going to say service hatch to the hidden base we all know is there somewhere. I figure the island is honeycombed with them, it would explain the ‘voices/noise’ in the forest as equipment or such.

Jack and Kate, this is my issue, we can see that she loves him or at least sees him as special (worships) but he is too wrapped into his own anal issues to see it, when it happens it will be passionate but let it happen already, it is getting painful to watch.

Well, get to watch reruns for a while, may catch something…:)

Speaking of false names...

Anyone get the word play on "Ethan Rom"?

Rearrange the letters to get "Other Man"...what does it all mean? My wife just got me into this show a couple of weeks ago...so I am glad they are replaying the 1st 2 episodes next week. Unfortunately, that is also the day after our next baby is scheduled to be born. TiVo, anyone ;)?

I've been watching the show from the beginning (in HD!!) and there is definitely something "mystical" about the island. It seems to respond when someone really wants something:

- Jack wanting Charlie to live
- Charlie finding his guitar
- Locke predicting the rain (did he predict it to rain or did he want it to?)
- the kid rolling the dice
- Locke walking
etc

There are a few more that I can't remember.

Few other random thoughts:
- My guess is that Hurley is into 1st-person shooters or has some kind of online hacker persona.
- Does Ethan remind anyone of the show "V"?
- That Boon and Locke found a UFO might not be too far off...

Is Locke bad? He is certainly mysterious.

He knows something about the Island after his "encounter".

A theory:
He wanted Boone to leave. He said it was going to rain and told him to go back. Knowing Boone would probably want to stay he MAKES it rain and then continues to walk through the woods until Boone thinks they are lost or at least not getting anywhere. Then Boone wants to go back and Locke can go off on his own like he wanted.

What do you think?

That is my favorite part of the episode.
Locke: "It is going to rain in one minute."
Boon: "One minute?"
Locke: "Give or take a few seconds."
Rain begins.

He definitely knows something about the island.
