Lost 2/16/05 Spoilers!!!

I thought that took some kahones from the writers to have Sawyer kill an 'innocent' man. You don't often see main characters in mainstream TV do that, the tendency is that characters "do the right thing" in the end. They're really testing the bounds of the audiences sympathies for Sawyer.

Is Sawyer still a redeemable 'good guy'?
I know it sparked some conversation with my girlfriend and I, but regardless I like what the character brings to the show.

Overall I thought it was an excellent episode, and am looking forward to next week. It's nice to get new episodes week after week again!

I think the saying was just coincidence, I mean it was a rpetty common saying up until they won the series.

Crothian, it was Jacks father Sawyer spoke to in the bar.
(from your response is sounds to me like maybe you didn't recognize him, or see the prior episode with him)

I think what Fett was asking was did the writers make it too coincidental that Sawyer and Jacks dad would meet, or was it a good plot device? (Correct me if I'm wrong Fett)

Personally I thought it was ok, and liked the last moments of the show when Sawyer put that together. They shouldn't have too many of this coincidental meetings in the past though.

I did not recognize him, thanks for that clarification.

What he said was what Sawyer was hearing in the jungle, or very close to it. Something like 'it'll all come back around'. TIVOists, tell us!

"It'll come back around."
That's what both the whispering and Frank said.

(A long time ago, i got into the habit of watching tv with closed captioning on, and now i have a hard time getting by without it.:))

The whole thing was a setup. It wasn't the real "sawyer." The guy who gave Sawyer the info, Hibbs I think his name was, set Sawyer up. That guy Sawyer killed just owed Hibbs money. Hibbs used Sawyer to do his dirty work. That's what the guy was saying after Sawyer shot him. And then he said "It'll come back around," which is what Sawyer heard being whispered in the jungle.

I found it very cool, in a horrible sort of way, these clarifications on Sawyer's history. Everything makes a lot more sense now....why he hates himself, why he acts in ways to make others hate him, etc. Given he shot an innocent guy, he probably wants to be offed himself.

Not much plot progression this episode, but the filling in of backstories was pretty cool.

I'm not sure if Sawyer realizes that the guy he met was Jack's father. Jack said he was dead. maybe he doesn't realize he's still alive? Will Sawyer mention this sometime in the future?

What I'm curious about (other than the Monster, the Hatch, the Voices... well, a lot of things), is what transpired between Sawyer shooting the guy and him ending up in police custody in Australia (from Boone's episode). He can't have been made as the killer, presumably, as he was on his own recognizance on the plane. Did they just run him in for being drunk? Or catch him in possession of the gun?

Jack's father is dead. He went to Australia to bring his father's body home. He had killed himself, IIRC.

Pretty good episode. Especially good because it shows why Sawyer is such a jerk. Now I'm starting to feel bad for the guy.

I really think that Sawyer figured out that the man was Jack's father, the look on his face proved it. I can only assume that Sawyer will start liking Jack even less than he did before.

I feel for Sawyer sometimes but other times, he is such an a$$! Oh, he knew it was Jack's father at the end, he knew and now it is an edge for later, it also gives Sawyer insight to Jack, seeing him from his father's eyes but we also see how Jack views Sawyer. Sawyer knowing Jack was always a 'great man' is going to be interesting.

Locke, did he know? He is becoming more a durid/shaman every show, vision quest, spirits, walk-a-bouts. What deal did he make with the island?

Hurley is just helping everyone and where he can, they really need to tell his story as he seems the only 'normal' person in the group!

Sawyer IS gonna hold it over Jack's head... but as soon as Jack treats him with some respect, he'll tell him. (so, likely never)

Sawyer is decent to those that treat him like a human and don't go to him on the offense...look at Hurley.
