Lost Monsters

The 1E MM2, IIRC.

actually... no. urds are a weird little mystery. the first place that i have been able to confirm them appearing in was Monstrous Compendium #2, from 1989. i have asked around, but no one seems to remember seeing them in any earlier source. if so, they would be the only creature in MC1 or MC2 that i know of which didn't appear previously in a 1E source.

Welcome to the Internet, ladies and gentlemen, where sentences need not contain actual words. :D

(Not picking on you, WD. This just struck me as very funny, for some reason. ;))

"The" isn't a word?

I forget which designers said it, but essentially they decided that a fallen celestial simply becomes a fiend of another type (like a fallen solar becoming a balor or pit fiend).

Interesting. A redeemed fiend doesn't become a celestial. It simply is redeemed.

And I checked, Zalatian the XXIII, the trumpet archon who fell in 2e and appeared in the 3e module 'Lord of the Iron Fortress' didn't become a fiend. He's listed as Trumpet Archon (fallen). His alignment went from LG to LE, and his subtypes went from Good and Law to Evil and Law. He retained some, but not all, of his former abilities, and a few were changed to affect good rather than evil as they had before.

I think we can happily say that no, fallen celestials don't just turn into a preexistant type of fiend when they turn evil. Every example I've found just has them turning evil but retaining most or all of their former form.

Agreed. Now if we can just convince 'em to release that template...

You know, I haven't ever even thought of contradicting you before...but are you sure?
I can Swear that those buggers appear before the MC entries. Is it possible that they were a Dragon creature that just knid of worked its way into the fabric of things? I actually want to know because ever since your post this has driven me crazy.

However, I believe we should call this one found as the new Dragonwrought Kobold in the RoD. The similarities are quite striking.

if you can find it, let me know, because i'd be overjoyed to see it. it only seems logical that they would have appeared before MC2, and although numerous folks have claimed they were *positive* they saw the urd in 1E, no one has ever been able to tell me *where*. it's driven me crazy as well. :D
