So for the sake of the mystery, yeah, good on Locke. Throw away information. But for the sake of logic, why the hell are Sayid and Kate keeping him around?

Beats me. But for the sake of this particular audience member, more dead Others is reason enough. I hope Ben and Juliet have something horrible happen to them, too.

Here's the main reason I liked this episode a lot more than the last - it was characterized so much better. If they had written Kate/Sayid/Locke like they did this week, last week, it would have been a much better episode. Kate gets to be crafty and resourceful, Locke isn't just a total nutbar, and Sayid... well, okay. Sayid, but not the flashbacks, was the only decent thing about last weeks episode.

That said, the entire first scene with the "away team" needed to be in last week's episode. It works in this episode, but it would have bookmarked the last episode better. Start the episode with them all together, albeit warily, and end with them all fighting. That's the power of the Others, to divide and conquer. Contrast that with the survivors' mantra - live together, die alone. I do wish this would be played up a bit. Also, finding the fence would have been a great teaser, I think.

Last week, Locke was just a loon. This week, Locke actually has reasons, and that goes a long way towards ameliorating his nutbar status. I found myself agreeing with both Locke and Sayid, and having trouble choosing one side over the other (no pun intended ). Again, that's something that was lacking in the last episode, moral ambiguity. Of course, Locke just goes and does his own thing anyway - which is totally in character. Only this time it had a point.

Recap - Kate is there because she's guilty over choosing Sawyer. Locke is there for an unknown reason, but I'm guessing it has to do with getting to talk to Ben. Danielle is there for Alex. That leaves Sayid as the only one there to really rescue Jack? Or is he just playing babysitter?

So, there's more evidence that the reason Charlie keeps dying is because of Claire. I'd really love it if the simplest way for Desmond to save Charlie is to keep him away from her. I do like Desmond and Charlie interacting, they have a great chemistry. One of the biggest problems I've had with Charlie is that they kept trying to force the Locke and Eko interactions and they always rang false. I buy Charlie/Desmond and Charlie/Sawyer, and even Charlie/Sayid a lot more. I think it has to do with the snark.

I do want to say that I'm beginning to feel the flashback format is starting to get tired, especially with certain characters. Claire is not one of them, because we don't have a whole lot of background on her - she's had two before this one, and one of those was on-island. So it was welcome. However, some characters' flashbacks just feel forced now, because we've got all the important parts to understand them. Among those is Locke... which is why I'm not looking forward to next week's eppy.

I liked this episode. To repeat what others have said it is nice to see Sayid some others finally doing something. Claire has got brains as well as beauty. But WTF is up with Locke. Last week I thought it was he was just an idiot douche for unknowingly blowing up the station. Now we find out he knew about the C4, now he is just a douche. If we wants to stay on the island so bad let the others be rescued and hide in the jungle until the rescuers leave.

And what would that point be. Other than being selfish and only caring about himself. He is infatuated and obsessed with the island. And crazy because he thinks the island is talking to him. He is willing to put the other survivors in danger because he thinks he is special. Boon and the plane, the button in the hatch.

I think Locke does not want anyone else rescued because he thinks the island want them to stay, the island brought them to it. What good is a voice for the island if there is no one around to hear him?

Jack is the type of personality that could take over the control of the other.

The Others, based on what we've seen of Nathan etc. in the flashbacks of that blonde Others woman seem to indicate that the Others were openly recruiting for the island only in the last few years....unless Nathan and her were relatively new recruits.

That's how I take it. There isn't really indication how long they'd actually been recruiting, just that Juliet and Eyepatch were among the recruits (and didn't Eyepatch say something about 24 years- I didn't quite catch all that).

Claire didn't get his name, so without a photo, and the coincidence of her seeing it, there's no way they'll ever realize.

That's what I thought, until I realized she has probably seen Jack's dad again at least once- she wasn't pregnant when he first visited her in this episode, but we know that he went down to Australia before he died- at a point when she was pregnant. That's the time we saw him leaving someone's house (probably her aunt's) in a drunken stupor.

I'm wondering why Locke has the C4....unless he's planning on using it on the submarine? Or is he playing some other game?

As Hand of Evil says above, and someone suggested in the thread for last week's episode- it seems that Locke probably blew up the facility last week on purpose. He claims that Sayid didn't tell him about the C4 and that's why he did it, but we then learn that he (by virtue of having some C4) must have known about it- and he must have retrieved it before he blew up the bunker- so I'm pretty darn sure that Locke is deliberately sabotaging things for some reason.

Also, something else interesting- Eyepatch talks about a really influential and inspirational man that is the reason he and the Others stay on the island- but then goes on to say that there's nothing special about Ben. Evidently Ben isn't the leader of the Others.

I still want to know how the others know so much about the survivors. Patch pretty much nailed the description of Kate and Sayid. Then throws out that "the John Locke he knows is para..."

Ben and Jullette both let Jack know that they had communication with the outside world. Background check and IF they have the pull, which I think they do, even Sayid's background could be known to them.

I didn't mean for last week... last week was just a mess.

This week though... he made good points for not keeping around the Other. He kept the C4 from Sayid and Kate because... well, he knows they think he's a loon, and they'd take it away. He's right - who knows how useful that C4 could be? Probably very useful. Sacrificing the Other to see if there was a trap was certainly better than sacrificing someone important - and the Other certainly wasn't exactly helping them. They certainly never would have gotten him over the fence anyway. It was an intelligent move.

Locke may be crazy, and have a boatload of issues (inferiority complex, craving approval, delusions of granduer, selfishness), but that doesn't mean he has to act illogically... it's what makes him all the more dangerous. When his issues and his agenda dictate his actions, that's reasons. As opposed to leaving a prisoner to go play a computer game - especially after what happened with Ben. That's just wacky.

Also, and I think this is something that gets overlooked when people consider Locke - he was in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down, for four years (I think). He lands on the island, and he's cured. That's like a fully ambulatory person waking up and discovering they can fly. So it's not surprising that he believes the island is a good thing, and is afraid he'll be forced to leave and lose his legs again.

Instead of seeking out Ben, Locke needs to sit his butt down next to Rose and do some laundry. They're both born out of the faith and wisdom archetypes. Locke's just broken, Rose could help with that.

Also, regarding Boone... I definitely fall into the camp that believes Locke didn't kill Boone at all. Boone volunteered to go up there, even after Locke tells him not to.

I definitely would like to see how Locke ended up in the wheelchair. I'm not particularly sure it's very important in the grand scheme of things, but certainly more worthwhile than pot growing.
