Lost S04E06 Mar 06 - The Other Woman

This episode wasn't awful, but compared to last week's -- which was one of the best episodes in the entire series -- it was just terribly uninteresting. Oh Juliet, how I wish you were less boring!

That said, the Ben and Locke portions of the episode were much more interesting, and Ben had some great lines. "This didn't have a number on it, did it?" and "See you guys at dinner!" both made me crack up.
Juliet has pretty much been just a reactive character. That is a problem.

What was the number rabbit line a reference to?

There was an on-line video in the past few months featuring the scientist guy who is in all of the Dharma films, with a rabbit with a number on it.

Suddenly another rabbit appears, with the same number. The scientician shouts that they can't touch each other and the video ends - implying something about time travel.

I had never caught the "Ben is in love with Julliette" vibe from their relationship. "Ben is manipulating Juliette" yes, but Ben is manipulating everyone.

I got the attraction/spurned lover vibe from Ben during his initial scene with Juliette in season 3, when he was upset that "I guess this means I'm out of the book club?" It seemed to disappear after that, though, turning into more of adversarial thing. I do like that they've gone back to it, and it really gives Ben that "creepy" vibe that he seemed a bit in danger of losing in recent episodes.

IIRC, the rabbit he drugged to con Sawyer also had a number on it ("8", I believe).

Anyway, I liked the episode, even if I felt there was a lot more Plot Induced Stupidity than has been usual lately. Once more we get Jack deciding not to press Juliette for answers, despite the fact that she clearly knows more about the island than she's letting on and they have hours to discuss things.

Even worse, though, was Kate turning her back on someone who was a) armed, and b) she clearly didn't trust. It might not have seemed quite so stupid if they hadn't shown her looking at the active sat phone before she started rummaging through the bags, but that would just be minimizing something already incredibly boneheaded.

Finally confirmation that Widmore is the guy behind the boat. And yeah- I'm pretty sure they're going to have Michael as the man on the boat, as decidedly inane as that currently appears (no hint that he was going to be doing anything for Ben once he left the island, no idea what that means for Walt). I hope they've got something good to explain that one.

I'm really enjoying this season, despite the above criticisms about the particular stupidities of this episode.

Oh, and another thing: Memo to Locke -- You owe Ben NOTHING! Once he played his last chip, it was time to bury him alive at the bottom of a deep pit. On second thought, bury him dead, because otherwise he'd just find a way to escape.

Locke is really starting to frustrate me. He has a serious achilles heel: the giant chip on his shoulder, which Ben constantly exploits again, again, and again. I hate BEn for his unrelenting snakiness, and I want to punch Locke for falling for it for the 500th time.

I also found it weak that Jack didn't really pursue the strangeness of the therapist suddenly appearing and disappearing in the forest.

But I've always liked Juliet. She is all kinds of sexy. :)

That's another thing that bugs me. Every time they seem to get Locke back to his first season bad-assery, they knock him back down to being spineless. I don't mind some occasional delving into that territory (it's only natural to backslide) but that seems to be the constant arc for the character every time he's onscreen. He'll get knocked down, then he'll go and do something to terrorize someone other than Ben to build his ego back up (like sticking a grenade in Miles' mouth).

Though I did like how he one-upped Ben with his 3.2 million dollar comment this ep.

I think by Ben saying it is his last card he is leading Locke to think it is not, so Locke is giving him enough of a lead to find out what he is really hiding.

I wonder if we are to believe that because Jack has seen his father appear and disappear he might be more prone to accept the therapist doing the same thing.

Ever since Gia.

Also, I was totally ready for her to shoot Charlotte, who is far to ready to hit people over the head rather than, ya know, TALKING to them!

Just about every character in the show is like that though...
