Lost - The Moth (11/3/04)

Regarding the fireworks... like Locke's knives, they were probably checked at baggage claim. In many cases the prohibitions about weapons are specifically for carry-on luggage... checked luggage has certain relaxed restrictions because passengers can't normally access it. Something else to keep in mind about the US is that large fireworks are not illegal in every state. I presume the plane was going to California, and I'm not sure what laws are in effect there, but it's entirely within the realm of possibility.

I was really amazed that Boone's sister and Sawyer set off the rockets. It was a great, suspenseful set-up, since we've seen both of them be incredibly irresponsible in the past. If it had been Kate and Boone it would have been a lot more boring.

I'm really liking the relationship between Locke and Charlie the most out of everyone on the show. I'm really hoping both of them stay on for another season.

Finally, a slight spoiler. The upcoming stories on Lost are going to be for
Sawyer, Sayid, Claire, Jack, Kate, and Boone
, in that order.

My reply in spoilers, because even though I didn't want to, my muscles acted of their own accord...

Misdirection, plain and simple. Sayid is probably being a gentleman, as I'm sure he knows of Kate's feelings for Jack.

I'll put my response in spoilers too...

I agree that he's just being gentlemanly. Also, I think he's married. Didn't we see him looking at a picture of his wife in an episode?

I had a thought that they might find Amelia Earheart on that island. I have to get a look at the wreckage near the cave to see if that might be something they included. the timeframe is correct for 45+ years and the area is also about right as she was in the South Pacific when she disappeared.

If anyone sees something supporting the thought, let me know! :)

I'm looking forward to Hurley's story and I hope they do something to show what it is Vincent sees, maybe lead Walt somewhere. I don't know if a Lassie nod would work but I do like the writing so far.

Oh, the story of the moth being helped and dieing was also used in "Warriors of Virtue".

Who whacked Sayid?

I think it should be fairly obvious who whacked Sayid. All you have to do is figure out who could have done it. Very few characters knew about Sayid's plan and where to find him. Sayid made the plan with Kate and Boone. Saywer eventually got in on it as did Boone's sister. Asside from them, I don't think anyone else was aware of the plan at all.

Here are my observations:

Sayid couldn't whack himself.
Kate was at the cave digging.
Sawyer was launching the third rocket.
Boone's sister was on the beach lauching the third rocket.

That leaves Boone. Although he took off with the group heading to the cave to help Jack, I don't recall seeing him arrive at the cave or digging. He knew where Sayid would be and he left the beach with enough time to reach Sayid's position.

Everyone else seems accounted for: Jack, the korean couple, Charlie, Walt and his dad were all at the cave. That's everyone except for Claire and Locke. I suppose Locke could have tracked Sayid and whacked him but as far as I know, Locke isn't aware of the french message at all or of Sayid' plan. It also doesn't seem his style, even if he wants to stay of the island.

So unless some native inhabitant of the island whacked Sayid, my money is on Boone. He's already proven himself to be counterproductive by trying to steal the gun and water. I'm certainly curious to learn more about him. He seems clearly to be the biggest threat among the castaways.

Hmmmm. Didn't we see Boone at the cave? I thought we did, but I don't specifically remember, now that you mention it. It certainly fits, and I had forgotten about the gun, too.

You've convinced me. Boone, I think, wants badly to appear like a hero...maybe he's a glory hound, desperate for attention? I don't really like Boone or his sister, when it comes to it. Sawyer may be selfish, but at least he's honest about it. I think Boone and his sister think they're better than the others, but I may be misreading them. Boone's sister is going to have to do something seriously major to reverse my opinion of her.

As for Sawyer? Well, I think Red Dwarf put it best....."Everybody loves a bastard." :)

Locke was out in the woods somewhere and he could have whacked Sayid. Sawyer was left to fire the rocket, and we saw that the rocket got fired; but it was the only rocket we didn't see who exactly fired it. So, it also could have been Sawyer.

Sawyer's a hard sell, there. Who else would have fired it, and then activated the transmitter? Only six people even know about the transmission to begin with: Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, Boone and his sister. That's why they didn't even trust folks with the knowledge of what they were doing, exactly. I think we're meant to suspect it's Sawyer, because he acts like an ass while Boone acts like a nice guy.

Locke could have done it, it's true...but I'm not seeing why, as readily. I'm sure Locke would, given a choice, remain....but I don't see him as the kind of person who would work so hard against them. More importantly, how would he know where they were? Only four people knew where they were going, and I'm not even sure if Sayid said specifically where he was going in front of Sawyer. Boone knew, though....but I'm still not sure why he or anyone else would do it.

I agree with WizardDru on this one; Sawyer is a hard sell. Last time we see Sawyer, he's in position to launch the third rocket. To whack Sayid himself he'd have to arrange for someone else to launch the third rocket in his place and then try to catch up to Sayid in time. It supposes to much; that he has a secret ally, that that ally somehow knew where to find sawyer in the forest or had been following Sawyer after he decided to chase after Kate and Sayid, that Kate would eventually leave Sawyer alone in time for Sawyer and he to switch places, leaving enough time for Sawyer to hike out to Sayid's position to whack him. I could more easily believe that the very pregnant Claire snuck up and whacked Sayid. :p

Sawyer is just a brooding jerk meant to draw attention away from the real threat. Boone has repeatedly proven himself to be untrustworthy. Trying to snatch the gun from Sayid, stealing all the water in camp. He's the real danger on the island. Frankly, I don't understand why Kate and Sayid shared their plan with him.
