Low-Level Game, Newbies Welcome! [Closed]

So far, if memory serves, we have:

A pixie who specializes in trying to kill as many things as possible in the brief moments she has before being knocked out. Hexblade striker specialist.

A warforged wildshape-focused druid who transforms and rolls out with his mecha-jackal pal, perhaps to fight crime! Hybrid striker-controller, with emphasis on striker.

An artifical freak of nature who helps us with the power of LOVE! Ardent leader who's final build is yet to be determined (but that reach weapon build is pretty solid with all us melee guys).

I'd say a Defender would be nice, since so far our crew is kinda squishy. A dedicated controller would also be handy.

I'm assuming the standard lvl -1/lvl/lvl+1 magic item spread, with cash on hand for another lvl item. Normal for starting at levels higher than 1. GM can correct me if there's another plan for that. :)

No bonus feats except those your race and class entitle you to.

Yeah, I've never played a campaign that didn't start at 1 before so I'm sticking with the by-the-book rules for magic items and equipment. I don't, however, hand out tax feat bonuses.

I have decided that we will be using the Fixed Enhancement Bonuses so you don't have to feel like you NEED to pick up magic weapons and armor to start with. At level 5, this means you have +1 to attack, damage, and defenses, and deal +1d6 damage on a critical hit (unless you have a magic weapon or armor, then that replaces this).

I'm going to use normal magic item distribution, this is just to give me a bit more free range instead of having to figure out who needs what upgrade.

I've found that most 4e characters aren't squishy - only the ones that are limited to cloth tend to be.

@Shayuri - your Wellblade comes with Ranged Striker power built right in (via Eldritch Bolt), so you could flit about and snipe the battlefield to your heart's content until you see your opening, then dive in for the kills.

If we're adding a Dwarf Warden to the party, that's great from a Theme standpoint - 3/5 members so far will be Fey/Nature themed and one a 'freak' of Nature. ;)

A Ranged character might be best to round out the team - possibly a Ranged Striker or a full-blooded Controller. Also, a Lazy Warlord turns a Hexblade into pure terror (I'm playing a Wellblade in my RL campaign and the two heavy hitters are MBA-based; things die fast.)

If my build is too 'fancy' (ie I'm the only one who's Hybrid), I may switch out. I dunno yet.

A leader who can enable basic attacks will find Seelia an amazingly effective weapon, yep.

She's not -terrible- with her RBA, but it can't match the damage potential of her MBA, nor the accuracy of it. She's designed to go flying straight into the maws of danger, not dance about on the fringes! She's a SUPERHERO, man, not a glamour boy! Not a captain of industry, not a maker of things! SHE IS A JUSTICE SANDWICH! No toppings necessary! Living rooms of America, DO YOU CATCH MY DRIFT?!

Do. You. Dig?

LOL! Oh, I dig, but you can't be a sparkling comet of justice and then complain about how squishy you are. :P

Damage is great, but I've found that skirmishing and pew-pewing to be an effective tactic, especially with those free pop-pops (thanks Magnitude!). Someones you don't WANT to be in the thick of things too early.

Sometimes.

Also, throw on some Chain +2 and you're stylin'.

Can't do chain. Too heavy. Sad but true.

And skirmishing/pewpew is a totally effective tactic, if you build for it. I didn't. I built for charging in and grabbing the sock and shaking it as hard as I can.

I'm not really complaining about being squishy...more like warning y'all that I'm squishy. :)

I love squishy characters. They make funny noises when they explode!

For serious, though, I am a fan of letting the dice fall where they may, but if you like your character, I will always provide a way for you to keep him or her. I'm also using a version of the Injuries from Drag Mag: Hit Points are more abstract; when you get "hit" you are just being exhausted, until you reach bloodied, which is when you are actually hit, and you acquire an injury. Staying above bloodied is more important in this game than in others, but there will probably be fewer than normal combats to compensate. Maybe. ;)
