Loxo is CR 2?!?!?!

Okay, the ogre is CR 2. THAT has been up for MUCH debate for a while now.

The loxo is STRONGER than the ogre in EVERY way, yet it is CR 2. Does anyone else have a problem with this crap?

I challenge ANYONE to come up with the best Level 2 party they can think of, and I'm willing to bet that the loxo will win the battle 90% of the time WITHOUT A PROBLEM.

That said, here is a change I would propose:

The loxo is ALMOST as powerful as a troll, but not quite. The loxo is, in fact, a CR 4 creature, NOT a CR 2 creature.

It'll take at least 20% of a 2nd level groups resources; by that I mean it will kill at least one of them.

The CR has to be in error. It has three attacks and trample. Uh oh. Second level PCs have around 6-20 hit points. Loxo can easily deal 20 points per round. Your suggestion for CR 4 might be agood one, but requires playtesting.

Oh, I'm all over that. This creature is silly (I am really starting to hate all of these anthropomorphic animals). OK, a humanoid elephant with two trunks. Hmmm, that's a gem. File that right next to the humanoid hippos from Spelljammer...

That said, the CR issue is not unique among the monsters in this book.

Any GM who has every read Larry Niven's "Footfall" (Earth is invaded by elephant aliens with bifurcated trunks, capable of wielding BIG assault rifles) is probably dying to find a way to slot the Loxo into his adventures.
