'Yer made for the stone Snorri, solid and just as dense,' the Old Stonelords chastisement eked into his thoughts as the din of battle erupted around him, 'but you dont listen to mountain when it speaks, you dont feel the warning tremors until earth begins to shake, yer made for the stone alright, but you've to many cracks in yer foundation.' The recollection of the lesson ended with his mentor knocking him prone while he was lording the bout, focusing elsewhere, and his attention returned to the present situation. He was confidant, had the upper hand, this was all under control.
'Just as dense...' echoed the memory of the training session

An uneasiness gripped the dwarf as he brought his shield around to interpose between Kepli's adversary and himself, Snorri prepared to retaliate on his current foe. Swinging his axe on the goblin, he tried to isolate the sounds of battle, listening for the telltale secrets of the stone; the scuff of boots, the creak of doors, the scrapes and clangs of movement in the earth. His hackles were in a state, and he was still just as dense.

Caius Aurelius, Soldier of Amenthia

The goblin went down to a knee when his girlfriend's limp corpse smacked wetly into his chest. He pushes her off now and moves forward to square off against Caius, a hideous grin spreading too far across his wrinkled face. The goblin is aged and liver spots dot his balding pate.

He can't be much older than 20 winters, Caius thinks to himself. Goblin lives are harsh. I've heard most die young in accidents and plague.

The goblin stabs at Caius experimentally but the veteran soldier knocks the dogslicer lazily aside with the butt of his scythe. Next comes a flurry of jabs and swipes from several angles. There seems no pattern or purpose about the onslaught but Caius misjudges and winces at a cut across his bare knuckles. In his periphery he sees his companions striking down more goblinkind.

"All right, you bastard, that's enough. You're old and nigh crippled as it is. I'll give you a respectable death." The scythe descends.

Snorri, Brog, and Caius all wreck havoc along the front row of engaged goblins, slaying those before them in a quick, bloody spectacle of violence. The last remaining, and also already gravely injured, goblin takes several quick steps away from Kepli and the others while staring in shock and horror. He doesn't notice that he has walked backwards into a collared giant lizard, tied by heavy rope to a stake along the far corner. The lizard takes a bite out of the goblin's shoulder, causing the humanoid to scream in terror before tearing away from the creature. The goblin doesn't make it far, though, as a combination of the wounds he sustained causes his knees to buckle and he dies in front of you.

The giant lizard whines and whimpers as you approach. It has several fresh wounds and old scars along its body and looks emaciated from hunger. It is obvious that it was a victim of the goblin's sadistic and tortuous games and looks to be near death from starvation and abuse.

When Snorri positioned himself on the other side of the goblin Kepli was battling against Kepli grinned, sure that now with the dwarven warrior distracting the goblin that she would be able to finish it off. But the goblin's own nature turned against him and as it stumbled into the reach of the giant lizard it died, messily. Kepli was simultaneously horrified, relieved, and aghast. She dropped to her knees and shrugged out of her pack. With as many of her rations as she could grab, she moved towards the lizard and offered them to the creature. At the same time she spoke words of propitiation to the local spirits of nature accompanied with gestures; it was a mesmerizing but brief dance that invoked nature magic.

"It'll be all right, my scaly friend."

Kepli moved forward while the creature ate and began untying the rope from the stake.

"What have we ere?" The stonelord briefly inspects the lizard as he moves toward the passageway that the fleeing goblin was choosing as an escape exit, he puts his ear against the wall. Pausing to wipe his axe on one of the fallen. He adjusts his shield around to hang from his back, freeing a hand to caress the aperture walls, and the wall surrounding, as he studies the stonework, .
