After examining the swords Tsaaruk is surprised to see the quality underneath the dust. Such fine weapons as these should not be left in such a place to rot away. He ties them into a bundle and attaches them to his pack. "These should be cleaned and polished and have the grips replaced. They are of a quality that demands such and deserving a wielder of equal character." He carries them so that the group can restore them to their former glory upon their return.

Pirvinia nodded approval at Tsaaruk’s collecting of the old swords. They were on a treasure hunt after all.

She joined Thuvian as he examined the symbols. After hearing his musings (assumed since SS21 is a bit AFK), she wondered aloud for others to hear and opine about, “So instead of unlocking the front door like the last set, these are something simpler. Mayhap they are nothing more than the controls for the portcullis that we suspect are the meaning of the holes by the entrance to the chamber.”

“Does anyone wish to experiment on it to verify the assumption? Or shall we move deeper to the next chamber?”

When Tsaaruk makes his find and begins to investigate the blades, the big half-orc looks on with interest. "Indeed, friend, these are fine work! They deserve to be put to the use for which they were crafted, or to be on proud display, not rusting away in this old ruin."

Thuvian, having pulled our a book and pen while others were checking the weapons, quietly finishes copying down the symbols. "Already done. I think we've gotten everything of value in this room; we should probably keep moving."

The Atrium

Having collected the ancient swords and examined the control panel, the group exits the room through the doorway on the opposite side and heads down a ten foot wide stairway. After hitting a landing, the passageway opens into a large atrium. As the other rooms, it is completely dark, but your special eyesight allows you to see all the entire space.

The Atrium, roughly fifty by sixty feet in dimension, is vaulted with the apex running north south. The most notable feature of the room is the partial second level, about 10 feet above the floor and created through lattice-work metal which runs around the north, east and west walls, as well as bridging across the center of the room. Additionally, In the center of the south wall, some 12 feet above the floor, is what looks to be a boarded-up round window. It seems to be some 3 to 4 feet in diameter, but it's hard to be sure due to the boards making fine determinations difficult. Finally, there are a lot of exits from the room. Most are arched doorways almost ten feet wide, and are located both on the first and second levels. Often, stairs leading up or down can be seen five to ten feet beyond them. However, one exit is a normally sized door on first level, south wall.

Outside of the complex room layout, there appears to be nothing in this room. There is no furniture, no skeletal remains, etc. It's remarkably bare.

[sblock=Swords]There's upwards of four of them, for anyone that wants one. As mentioned, they're technically longswords, but on the shortish side... normal with the just handle wrapping restored, MW if fully restored.[/sblock]
[sblock=Map]To fully describe this and successfully convey the right idea would be nearly impossible, so I wrote a map. The peak of the arch is a vertical line between columns F and G. The exits are labeled in red for easy reference, and marked in black as L1 (level 1) and L2 (level 2, opens onto the lattice floor.) You came in through exit B. If there is a red + or - sign, the stairs beyond the exit head in that direction (+ is up, - is down). Finally, the dotted line marks the extent of the lattice-work level 2 going around the edge and through the middle of the room. Here it is:

Pirvinia gestured towards the arches on the upper level, "Far'ziel, please go up and take a quick look through each, then the boarded up window."

The mephit flew up and did as instructed.

The sorceress commented, "There doesn't appear to be an obvious way up there to the upper exits. But we could climb a rope after my companion ties off one end if we wanted."

Like a flying torch, Far'ziel begins surveying the exits to the atrium, starting with those closest. Thanks to the nature off the lattice-work second level flooring, it is possible to keep an eye on her so long as she remains in the room. The metal is not very thick, inferring a decent understanding of metallurgy by whomever built the place. The memphit's flight is starting to stir up sone dust, which seems to be more of an issue in this room than the previous two.

[sblock=Exits]Here is the initial scouting information. More later, when others have had a chance to investigate as well. For now, Farziel is a busy little buddy.

As Far'ziel scouts the area above Tsaaruk concentrates on watching the area scanning from opening to opening looking for any threat. It is a little unsettling to have so many possible threat points all around as one never knows from where a attack may come. He understands his role to play is react to a threat and interpose himself between such a threat and the group allowing them to concentrate on the investigation.
