Lurking lettuces try to attack anyone or anything trying to eat or gather them. A lurking lettuce that hits with its bite attack deals at least 1 damage.
Plant Traits (Ex): A lurking lettuce is immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, and polymorphing. It is not subject to critical hits or mind-influencing affects. The creature also has low-light vision.
Skills: *A lurking lettuce receives a +8 racial bonus to Hide checks when hiding between normal heads. They get a –4 penalty when it’s not the right season for lettuce, however.

I've been lurking here myself for some time now, so I thought this would be an appropriate first post in Homebrews. :)
This creature belongs to my 'Book of Blurry Beings', which is not a real book, but a collection of silly creatures I invented. (So, if you were wondering: yes, it's supposed to be a silly thingy. :D )

Hope you like it, and of course all comments are welcome.

Well, it certainly is weird... Nice work, I can't see anything wrong with it other than the creature is supposed to have four skill points... :D

Yes there is, Savage Species mentions that Plants have (2+Int mod) x HD+3

Your plant have an Int mod of -2, so 2-2=0 but it cannot get less than one skillpoint per HD, so 1xHD+3=4, as your creature has less than one HD.

Do I make sense? I tend to be confusing on occassion :D

You make perfect sense. :)
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that, since I don't have Savage Species (yet).

So, the skills will become:
Skills: Animal Empathy +1, Hide +17*

Well... some animals tend to eat lettuce, right? I figured it would be a nice feature for such a creature to be able to get them to eat something else.
But any suggestions are appreciated.

And a feat... that's due to Savage Species as well, right?
Since the Lurking Lettuce is supposed to be able to strike quickly:

Initiative: +7 (+3 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative)
Feats: Improved Initiative.

BTW: Are there a lot of changes like this in Savage Species? Is there a thread around here anywhere where this is being discussed?

Not much else, other than the Beast type dissapearing (Dinosaurs are now animals, while griffins and the like are magical beasts), and shapechanger changing from a creature type, to a subtype.

Anyways, creatures now get feats at the same rate as PC's (one at first HD, and one feat for every 3HD). Most creatures get (2+Int mod)x (HD+3) skillpoints, the few exceptions being dragons, outsiders, undead, and fey, who get more.

Oh, yeah, and Wilderness Lore is now called survival. :D

and that's about it.

As for skill ideas for the lettuce, I suggest listen and spot. But it's pretty much up to you as it is your creature.

Also, don't be shy, leave comments on other peoples threads, they'll appreciate it :D

Thanks again for the info. I think I'll buy Savage Species one of these days.

I'll stick to Handle Animal. It might be a bit weird, but that kinda fits.

As for your last comment: I just posted a question for you in the Scorpiontail thread. :)
