Magic double weapon cost loop hole?

First of all it involves the master of chains from S&F.

At level 5 the master of chains gains the ability to use the spiked chain as a double weapon does this mean that all of a sudden one half of the spiked chain is not magical or does both ends of the spiked chain get whatever enchantments are on it.

I was going to make a drow master of chains after being inspired by an article I read on drow fighting styles (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/fightstyle) and scince we are starting at high levels this will most likly become an issue.

I don't want this to become a debate on how broken the spiked chain is. I personally like it and think it's reasonally balanced. Not all things are created equal in D&D.

Any ideas or alternate ways of looking at this ability would be helpfull.

All double weapons need to have each side enchanted seperately. So, you would need to do the same with the Spiked Chain. It should have been clarified in the prestige class.

Yes, it looks like a loophole. Personally, I don't think it needs to be changed -- that would drastically weaken the class ability.

I say that a sword with two head (one on each side) has two blades each needing its on magic.
But, a 5ft chain is a 5ft chain and a 15’ chain is a 15ft chain. A chain is one Item no madder if you hold it a one end or the other, in the middle, or with two hands.

A spiked chain is not a double weapn therefore it does not have ends that have to be enchanted seperately. Using it as a double weapon does not change the fact that it is not a double weapon.

How are you going to get the 4 or 5 feats you need to be an effective double weapon fighter as a drow master of chains? You'll be well into epic levels before you get that many spare feats.

Spiked chains are not normally double weapons. Being able to use the weapon as a double does not actually change the weapon into a double weapon. So, you only need to enhance your weapon once, because it's still only a single weapon.
