Magic Item Pricing - Recharging Staff

*nod*
How about this for another option/baseline:
This'll get 50 charges, and 3charges/day for each ability as well.

Weapon Properties:
+1 Flaming [8,300]
+1 Ghost Touch [8,300]
WpnTotal: 16,600

Staff Properties (50 Charges):
- Transdimensional Scorching Ray (CL 9th) (1 charge) [3x9x750 gp = 20,250 gp]
- Transdimensional Fireball (CL 9th) (2 charges) [4x9x750x1/2x3/4 gp = 10,125 gp]
- Fire Brand (CL 9th) (3 charges) [5x9x750x1/3x1/2 gp = 5,625 gp]
StaffTotal: 36,000

Wonderous Properties (3 Charges/day):
- Transdimensional Scorching Ray (CL 9th) (1 charge) [3x9x400x3 gp = 32,400 gp]
- Transdimensional Fireball (CL 9th) (2 charges) [4x9x400x 1/2 x 3/4 x3gp = 16,200 gp]
- Fire Brand (CL 9th) (3 charges) [5x9x400x 1/3 x 1/2 x3 gp = 9,000 gp]
WonTotal: 57,600

Wonderous + 1.5xStaff + 1.5xWpn = 136,200

Comes out more expensive than my first costing, but it's arguably more powerful as well.

It also works completely different, since staff charges and charges/day are completely seperate.

Besides, you mix the staff pricing guidelines with the wondrous item guidelines in the last bit (the extra charges used and 75%/50% cost for second/third abilities), that seems to be kinda besides the point of using seperate costs. ;)

Hmm... so would 100k be an appropriate price for the initial item? Or the 70k I came up with? Or even more than 100k?

If about 100k is cool, then the recharging (1 charge/day) quality should have a +100% cost, I guess.

Yeah, it does work completely different, but it's the closest to "rules supported" I could come up with.

Yep, I mixed them up on purpose. There are 50 staff charges that can be used 1, 2 or 3 at a time to activate abilites. There are also 3/day wonderous item (i.e. rod) charges that can be used 1, 2 or 3 at a time to activate abilities. Seperate pools of charges that activate operatively identical effects.

100k (+100% for the recharging property) is probably a reasonable cost for the item and should be not too unbalanced in most games. (i.e., I'd probably give it the ok in my game)

It's only the same, tho, as long as the staff charges are not expended. :)
But more importantly, I see it more like two completely seperate items that way.
