Major ‘DOH ! !’

Major ‘DOH ! !’

Hi all, I had a big homer Simpson DOH ! moment the other day. I built and am playing a PC based around crafting and using a suit of full plate. This armor is this guy’s life. Right now, he’s 4th level and it’s still just Mithral Full Plate +1.

So here’s the thing, when I planned this guy out, I had him with 4 fighter levels. After that, I switched the first two levels for barbarian (for flavor/story reasons). So, I lost a feat, and LIKE AN IDIOT, I nixed endurance.

Net net, now this poor guy can’t sleep in his armor! DOH! Every time we are attacked at night, he and a buddy have to spend minutes to put it on? DOH!

So here’s the question. Is there and enchantment that will let him Don armor quickly (like a full round action or so). Is there one that will let him sleep in armor? Finally, does anyone know of a good reference for armor enchantments? I planned this armor out using the DMG, but the limited number of armor enchantments annoys me!

Of, one more thing (call me an optimist), and chance Mithral lowers the time to don/doff armor? I mean it’s super light (now) medium armor, right? Maybe the same as a breastplate? ? (hopeful look, slowly sags into a look of shame… Doh!)

Thanks all for the help.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought that Mithral cuts the donning/removing time in half... I think.

Anyway, as for enhancements, I believe there was an enhancement in Defenders of the Faith that allowed you to don your armor or shield as a Standard action, regardless of where it is (as long as it's in your possession).

There is an ability in Artificer's Handbook that does this.

Donning
Armor with this enchantment has a magical property which enables it to be donned or removed in a single round. The armor flies to or from the wearer while they stand still. This process takes 1 round regardless of the type of armor, but the wearer can do nothing else during that round. The Character
must be in physical contact with the armor in order to activate the ability.
Spell: unseen servant; Market Price: +2 bonus

Has the rule changed in 3.5? In 3.0, if you sleep in armor with an Armor Check Penalty of -5 or worse, you are fatigued the next day. Mithral reduces the Armor Check penalty by three, and Full Plate has an Armor Check Penalty of -6. Thus, in 3.0, you can sleep in Mithral Full Plate without being fatigued the next day. What has changed in 3.5?

AR

in 3.5 sleeping in Med or Hvy armor fatigues you, but sleeping in light does not. If you have the feat Endurace, you can sleep in Med armor as well. As far as the original question goes - nope, youre gonna be fatigued if you sleep in that w/o endurance, so get the cleric to cast a lessr restoration on you each morning. heals 1d4 ability damage and removes fatigue/exhaustion.

Your best bet is the Called armor enhancement from Defenders of the Faith (I believe). It lets you call your armor to you as a standard action. Even better, if you're in a city you can walk around completely unarmored and unintimidating, then when things go badly BAM! full plate. :)

This probably doesn't help any, but in Relics and Rituals there is an armor enchantment called "Clothborn armor".

What it does is it changes the regular armors (whatever it is) Max Dex, Armor Check Penalty, Arcane Spell Failure, Speed and Weight into that of a Leather Armor.

In other words a Clothborn full-plate would look like this:
Type: light, AC bonus: +8, Max Dex: +6, Check Penalty: 0, Spell Failure: 10 %, Speed: 30 ft, Weight: 15 lb, Special Properties: Clothborn armor.
