Manifest Destiny -- Weird 1840s DnD3e Idea. (FULL!)

Well, Charisma isn't a measure of "smoothness", but rather force of personality. So, play him as brooding as you want, but he's not getting any bonuses for it. :D

Though, in certain occasions, I'll give a bonus for showing your strength, like breaking through a table while interrogating someone.
Fair enough :)

1) How are we handling armor? Is it ok for our characters to be walking around in chain mail and full plate (I'm guessing no :D), or would you rather we stuck to armor of the time (of which I'm not entirely sure what existed)?

I gave Nicholas a 'greatcoat' that is actually studded leather armor. Same stats, cost and penalties apply, but i'm calling it a greatcoat for flavor's sake. Dave_o didn't seem to mind. Although now I've called attention to it... ;)

Cheers,

I'm actually writing up Father Seamus Mckinney as a Bard. I'll hopefully get him up tonight. Tried to post him last night and lost him in some sort of glitch, then got frustrated at the glitch and didn't retype. Father Seamus isn't as spiritual as some priests, but he's a heckuva evangelist. He'll either be up tonight or early this morning.

Father Seamus McKinney

Father Seamus McKinney came to the United States while a young boy. While the voyage was long and arduous, Seamus' spirits were kept high by an elderly priest, who would regale the young boy with tales of wonder and splendor from the Good Book. It was the fond memories of that old man and his stories that chose the young man's destiny. Now, Seamus has never really joined a seminary. He's never even been actually ordained. In fact, he's got no relation to the Catholic Church at all, but that hasn't stopped him from becoming a missionary. A wandering mendicant, devoted to promoting the Lord and bring people closer to Jesus. Of course, the life of a wandering priest can be hard, what with bandits, thieves, and all manner of godless heathens willing to assault a man of the cloth. Those are the poor souls that most need to hear about the Lord's forgiveness, preferably after they've felt the Lord's most holy wrath.

Bio: Santiago De La Rosa

Santiago was born and raised in Spain. He is the descendent of a soldier who came with Ponce De Leone while he was looking for the Fountain of youth. His ancestor married a Spanish girl of noble birth and returned to Spain. Santiago hear the tales of the strange and wonderful place called America and decided as a young child that he would go there and find his fortune.
Somewhere between his decision to come to America and actually getting there he received the calling to the priesthood. At the time he was a soldier in the Spanish army and was given leave to enter a monastery dedicated to the “Sword arm of Jesus”.

During he stay at the monastery Santiago fell in love with one of the daughters of a high ranking noble and due to his vow of celibacy and chastity could do nothing but love her from a distance. Juanita Blanco the lady he had given his heart to was just as taken with the lanky soldier/priest and knowing of his vows and his love for her she gave him her ring as a lovers gift. This ring is tied into his long black hair and has never been removed.

At the monastery he was schooled in the fine arts of Diplomacy and was told he would be coming to America to aid in the Spanish occupation of the continent.
While he was in the Spanish occupied areas of America he saw great atrocities and was swayed to leave the army and strike out on his own. He has been searching for the guidance from God to show him where his destiny lay.

Appearance: Santiago is a tall and lanky sort of man with a strong build and beautiful face. He has long black hair typically tied in a ponytail and a heavy 5 o’clock shadow even when freshly shaved. He sports a thin mustache. His eyes are black and penetrating with a gaze that looks directly into the souls of those he meets. He is normally dressed in the clothing of a priest with a poncho over him. He is never seen with a horse but always has saddlebags with him.

Personality: Santiago is searching for the soul he feels he lost while working for the Spanish army. He has seen many things that are not the “way of God” and it sickened him enough to desert the army. He has no idea if he is being hunted as a deserter or if anyone has even noticed he is missing but he tries to keep a low profile. He is a calm and solemn man given to bouts of depression and joy in equal measure.

Yeah, flavor changes are always cool. And in the case of a greatcoat/duster jacket with some metal sewn in, well, that's actually right from the American 1800s. :D

CORINTHI -- I love the Father. Great, great concept. And the custom magic item is rad.

ARGENT -- Santiago is rad, too. I'm not sure if you speak Spanish, but his name would be Santiago De La Rosa, as La Rosa is a feminine noun. Del is used in place of de el, in case of masculine nouns. So, you can change that if you want, but if not -- also cool. :D Other than that, Santiago rocks -- he's he perfect neo-conquestidor concept.

I'm getting way stoked about this game!

Thanks, Dave.

I toyed with the Monk/Cleric concept for a while, but it never really gelled into my concept of a 19th century Priest. Not social enough.

I'd considered begging for version 3.5 Bardic Goodness, but I think the good father turned out pretty decent on 4 skill points. The spell failure is a bummer, but nothing too serious. He's more likely to try to deck a miscreant than invoke miracles on them anyhow.

Overall, I'm really satisfied with how the father turned out. Despite all the detractors, I like Bards. They're fun to play, tend to round out a party, and are generally decent.

And none of us are nearly as rad as you are, Dave.

Hey Corinthi,
please check your Skills. There is no way you could have that high a Diplomacy skill.
Ranks max of 7
+ 3 for Charisma.
= +10 not +14

Just to be aware... Argent
