Many-As-One

How would one go about converting Many-as-One from Planescape: Torment (and possibly the Planescape setting. Was it in there?)

The conversion that I have ( shown here ) only goes up to 100 Cranium Rats. What would several thousand in one place be like and how would one represent it?

Should he be made as a monster (a Vermin with Ooze qualites?), a character (Possibly a high level Psion), or simply continue the progression given?

Depends on how powerful and what abilities you want him (they?) to have. You could continue the progression as listed, but you might want to scale down the progression, to say every 10 rats for an increase, then maybe after a certain point every 20, every 40, etc.

You might, if you wanted to have a single "pack body" for Many-as-One composed of many rats into a humanoid form, use a modified, scaled down version of the worm that walks template from the ELH put onto on a psion or spell-caster. This would make it an ooze, which type is used liberally throughout the ELH, by the way.

I'm not familiar with Planescape, but from what your conversions look like-what you want is the Swarm rules in the Book of Vile Darkness.

With enough creatures in the swarm, they gain feats they can all use, and eventually cast spells as a sorcerer depending on how many HD of creatures are within the swarm.

Hope that helps :)

Another idea you could do if you want to have a "main speaking rat" like in the game is to put a Pargon template from the ELH on a normal cranium rat and possibly switch the magical abililties for psionic equivalents. This would give you a formidable pack leader similar to how the Queen borg is to the normal borg from Star Trek. By the way, according to Gaming Report there should be rules for cranium rat swarms in the Fiend Folio .

Hmmm, I kinda like the way that sounds. A singlr Cranium Rat who can channel the power of the collective. Perhaps make it so that if it is killed, another Cranium Rat manifests as the "Alpha"

I also heard that theCranium Rats were covered in the Feind Folio, but I haven't even seen a copy yet (and probly won't for a while yet :( ). Any one here taken a look? What are your thoughts?

I got a copy. Basically they treat a swarm as a single creature with the Swarm subtype that gives it a lot of Ooze-like properties. There is a lesser, medium, and greater swarm with the weaker ones being able to combine to form a greater one.. Each casts Wizard spells (or uses psionics if you have the PSiHB) at a certain level according to the type of cranium rat swarm. YOu might want to take a look. If you wanted an epic-level challenge, it would not be hard to slap a Paragon template to a swarm of these rats to represent the size of what you want Many-as-One to be (the greater pack consists of only 300 rats).

Yep, they have rules for small, medium and large swarms of cranium rats- I like them a lot. It's under S for swarm.
