Marvel culls mutants

Personally, I don't think the problem is "too many mutants".

I think the problem is "too many titles".

Marvel has too many unnecessary books out right now. Do we really need a dozen mutant books? Do we really need a Nightcrawler book? sheesh...

I agree. That's been a problem with the mutant titles for years at Marvel, though.

Actually, that one I would like to see continued. I'm a huge Nightcrawler fan.

Ultimate Nightcrawler (from the Ultimate Universe) would rock as a solo miniseries.

Actually, I think a better solution is to bring back the old "MARVEL TALES" book. give a nice 1-to-6 issue story for different characters.

That way writers and fans can each get some good variety. If you have a good writer/artist team, people will stay.

Nightcrawler has always been my favorite X-man. Unfortunately, I don't read comics frequently so I'm not the kind of fan that helps keep a title going. I do agree that miniseries with a focus on a single hero from a team would probably be better than having so many of them with their own comics.

I'm surprised they didn't announce they were killing all mutant titles to be replaced by 20 comics starring Wolverine.

I'm not liking this at all, since the whole 'mutants on every corner' thing brought on by Grant Morrison's run was an attempt to portray mutants as a minority in the 21st century and not the 1960's. Morrison's idea of mutant ghettos and the ever growing number of mutants had to do more with how things were going on right now, in places like Europe where the native population is fearing that they're being replaced by ever-increasing waves of (non-white) immigrants. His run and a couple titles like District X tried to explore some of the sociological aspects of this growing mutant society, much like the ever growing asian minority in a number of countries (like the UK, or western Canada & the US) today.

Why worry about what they're doing now? In 5 years or so they'll bring all of them back so they can rewrite all the stories that they told back in the '80s and then re-told in the '90s. Every time they want to grab a new audience - kids - they restart the whole history of mutants in the Marvel universe. :\

Yes. Because Nightcrawler has more Cool in the tip of his tail than most mutants have in their whole extended "I'm a child of Scott Summers and Jean Grey form an alternate universe..." storylines

Hell, Bucky's back. Marvel has basically said they no longer have any solid rules, except the whims of the editors.

OKay, Bucky is back, but in the Ultimate Line, not the current Marvel Universe main Books.*will check for the record, though*

Update: 'Bucky' was sighted in Captain America #6, but as a full grown man. Here is the linkage

Now this gets more confusing, here is a forum article about Bucky's suppose appearance.

As for the culling, and spoilers are HERE...Good Ole' Wanda does the cutting with her mind.

And sheesh...I don't even collect Marvel books.

And yeah, go and say it...blame on the female. Love it how Marvel finds the 'scape' goat for this house cleaning.

I may have spoke too soon. I talked to my local comic book dealer, and he says that a book like that traditionally does very poorly in sales.
