Marvel Heros "Teen" Campaign

I still have gotten NO ideas on any possibilities for any npcs. Heres what I need.

Students: physical descriptions, power set, origin of powers, lineage if any(i.e. if one or more of their parents are a current character in the marvel lineup)

Mentors: After students graduate they become mentors to the "Team" each team is consistent of 4-6 students plus themselves. This is a two year graduate program for ones seeking entrance to the "Avengers" or any of their incarnations (great lake avengers), Fantastic Four, Alpha (gamma, beta) Flight, Defenders, Champions, The New Warriors, ect ect.
But I need the same thing that I needed for the students.

Teachers: Spin current Marvel characters that have decided to train a new generation into faculty of the school.(Heracules the P.E. teacher anyone)

Keeping this within Marvel for inspiration:

1) Ilsa Arranova: Illigitimate daughter of Victor Von Doom (or one of his clones or him from another dimension...). Gadgeteer, no arcane power. Hasn't decided whether she's on the side of the angels or devils, but she sure as heck hates her Dad.

2) John "Bolt" Doe, a.k.a. EMP (Electromagnetic Phantom): Genetically engineered 'son' of Magneto and Kitty Pryde (via scavenged genetic material) from a Black Ops super soldier program. When he didn't manifest powers before age 8, he was mindwiped and abandoned at an orphanage. Pretty fast, loves football and plays as a WR, hence his nickname. He discovered his power at age 14: he turns into a "ghost" with a powerful electromagnetic field. He can pass through walls, and can generate EMPs with area effects like radii, cones, or explosions...and is learning how to focus his powers to take our devices surgically.

awesomeness!!! Keep em coming!

Before we go any further, I'd recommend the following web sites:

The Marvel Database
The Marvel Universe

The former is an unofficial fan project, the latter is the official marvel database. They are chock full of detailed characters and ideas. They are extensive and very helpful.

Since the boys are going to be much more familiar with the Avengers from movies, games and the new TV show, let's assume that we're not working with current continuity, generally-speaking. By that I mean we're not going to burden ourselves with lots of developments over the past 10 years with all its 'earth shattering events'. A 'big picture' version of Marvel, if you will.

Students: physical descriptions, power set, origin of powers, lineage if any(i.e. if one or more of their parents are a current character in the marvel lineup)

There are plenty of existing Teen Heroes you could use, without making new ones, if you so desired.

Nomad
Spider-Girl
Amadeus Cho
The Young Avengers
The Young Warriors
The Young Masters (bad guys!)
The Runaways

All of these groups have teen members who it wouldn't be surprising to find had somehow been convinced or forced to go to a superhero school.

In comics, there is (recently, at least) an Avengers Academy. Generally this wouldn't be something that's entirely age appropriate (too violent, for one), but the idea is somewhat similar. Obviously, we also have Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, the Massachusetts Academy and the Academy for Tomorrow. In most cases, their students are being trained to use their powers, often for a greater purpose. Many former students become mentors and we especially see that in the X-titles.

For this purpose, I'd recommend using folks like members of the New Mutants and New Warriors. Both are groups that started with younger teens that now have reached adult status (give or take...The New Mutants have managed to age about 5-7 years over the last 30). The New X-Men (which I have less knowledge of) are still students, iirc, albeit in separate groups.

Prime characters to use as mentors:
Night Thrasher
Cannonball
Moonstar (who has, in the comics, done exactly this)
Justice

Now here is where you can really have FUN. The Marvel Universe has 50 years of characters, many of who have been reinvented multiple times over the years...and some who have just plain been forgotten. The Avengers TV show throws many of these characters on-screen for quick cameos, but there are tons of them you can use.

Driving Instructor:
Ulysses Solomon Archer (aka US 1)

Art Teacher:
Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin (aka Colossus)

Flight Instructor:
Abigail Boylen (aka Cloud 9)

Social Studies/Civics/Law
Jennifer Walters, Esq. (aka She-Hulk)

And so on. The MU has tons and tons of characters to draw upon.

As for ideas for stories, there are plenty.

  • Junior Teams are tasked with playing a sport against each other. POWERS ARE ALLOWED, with restrictions. Can the player's team win the championship? Think classic X-men playing Baseball, here.
  • Scavenger Hunt! The school is full of weird things and odd characters. The junior teams are tasked with locating some objects and people...but they'll need their powers to win
  • Art Project! We're not talking clay and paint, today. Students must gather dangerous materials like Lava, meteors, deep-sea coral and other hard to get items that only their powers will let them get.
  • Rival Schools! A competition has been arranged with students from Xavier's or the Academy. And in the middle of the exercise, VILLIANS ATTACK, kidnapping the instructors! Only the students can rescue them, if they HURRY.
  • Shoping Trip! It was only supposed to be a trip to the mall to get some new clothes and stand on line for the midnight release of Call of Black Honor 6...but no one told the villians attempting to rob the jewlery store or kidnap the senator's daughter! No one else is here, it's up to the students to save the day!

You get the idea. Remember the Marvel rule of attaction: if you go ice-skating in central park, you get attacked. If you go to a poetry jam in the village, a store gets robbed next door. If you go to the shopping mall, villains arrive to kidnap one of your members. If you go on a fishing boat off of New Orleans, you encounter an angry monster. If you go stay at home alone on Christmas Eve, you get attacked by a Cthulian Horror resembling the Xenomorphs from Alien.

It's what happens to you in the Marvel Universe (and particularly if you're an X-man).

excellent points dru thank you for all the other resources as well. I have not really read comics since around 1995. A lot has changed. The whole "Ultimates" genre. Zombies....Civil War....ect ect. Almost nothing is the same. I was so lost when I broke out my comics and tried to relate to all the current rendetions of my most favorite heros.

So I kept it in the era I know most about. Thor is thor Eric Masterson is Thunderstrike. The Avengers are well and still heros the Sentry is essentially non existent and suppressed. The X-Men are right before the x-cutioners song saga.

The bad guys are the bad guys. Things continue much the same for twenty years or so and wallah add kids families and a new generation. So that is where we are.

So here are some Creations of My Own

First Schools
Alpine Academy for Excelling Students: A private school in Southern Cal. An Avengers school. Ran by Sam Wilson aka"Falcon".

Summit College Preparatory Institue: In Arizona. Ran by Doc Samson. A school bent towards teenage supers that have mutated and otherworldly blood lines(gamma exposed, atlantean, kree ect ect)

Egg Island Millitary Academy: A governmental institute in Alaska. Ran by US Agent. Leans toward characters that have a lower tier of super powers and items tech and training to augment powers.

School of the 9 folds: Not so much a school as a commune and "Mecca" of characters with Mental abilities. Ran by Moon Dragon.

Instructors

Forge: Shop teacher.

Lila Cheney: Stringed Instrument instructor

Spider Woman(Jessica Drew): Itroduction to Logic and Detective Work

Taskmaster: Hand to hand combat

Jerry Johnson(aka Right Winger): Gym

Hank Pym: Science behind the "Super"

Namorita: Underwater combat and excursion

The Sandman:The villains mind

Banshee: Battlefield leadership

Samuel Gurthie(Cannonball) Peacetime leadership

Carl Walker (Force)Fitting in in todays society

So I've been thinking about the sports athletics and activities side of an all supers school. I think I will have normal sports. Football, basketball, and baseball ect. But after being inspired by "Sky High". I think I will throw in an x-crawl type sport. Something their own much equivalent to "Quidditch" in Harry Potters wizarding world. So they are actually put into real scenarios and such with real combat and are forced to work as a team. Ideas suggestions. What should I call it?

Students and NPCs

The Fourth Mask: She is the daughter of the original Mysterio. Highly trained in hand to hand combat. A low level telepath. Can bring your fears to life via "Phantasms".

Judge: Son of Collossus and Kitty Pride. Not a believer in Xaviers call to pacifism and peace. Judge is "good" but a man of action or so he says. He has power to make his body super dense granting him heightened strength and protection.

More later...the real world calls...sigh.

More than a few good "What-ifs" will help you there. If you're looking for an alternate version of a character for a son or daughter of an established hero, I'd recommend using one of the variants. At some point, Marvel decided that their core universe was the '616' universe, which is core continuity. Every time they create an alternate future/past/current reality, someone pulls a number of the air and slaps it on there (though it may not be mentioned in the comic). For example, someone decided that the Avengers TV show that is currently running is actually Marvel-80920. It seems like Marvel is trying to get several of their animated projects to mesh, similar to the way that B:TAS, S:TAS, Batman: Beyond and JLU all did.

As for comics...well, there's been a lot of water under the bridge, but the recent "Heroic Age" event appears to mostly have been designed to undo a lot of the continuity messes of the last decade. Heroes are no longer fighting each other, everyone is becoming friends again and many dead heroes are back. The biggest change from comics of 20 years ago is that the X-men finally gave up on rebuilding Xavier's again and again and have relocated to San Franscisco Bay on the remnants of Magneto's old Asteroid Base that they've renamed Utopia.

If you're looking for some good teen superheroes, the Young Avengers are some of the best. Each one, when first introduced, appears to be aping an existing Avenger...then we discover that each one of them actually is related to ANOTHER Avenger, through some clever slight of hand (The Asgardian and Hulkling, for example, aren't related to Thor or the Hulk).

For completely new characters, let me spitball:

Shadow and Light (Melissa and Jamaal Johnson): Son and Daughter of the superheroes Cloak and Dagger, Shadow and Light share their parents powers, but in reverse. Raised by their parent to be rules-followers, this has not left them humorless, but reluctant to break the rules, ever. Melissa uses her Shadow and teleportation powers without hesitation and often rushes in blindly to danger, leaving her more reserved and analytical brother to use his light daggers and healing powers to bail her out. Despite their occasional sibling bickering, they are very close.

The Quantum Mechanic (Joshua Stark): Son of Iron Man and Madame Masque, Joshua is a genius with machines, getting them to do whatever he wants. His parents are divorced and his resentment at this has lead to a rebellious streak. He spends a lot of time pulling pranks and defying authority, though he's a loyal friend.

Sawfish (Kevin Newell): Son of the hero Stingray, Kevin is a bright optimist who is a bit naive. Highly athletic and adventurous, Kevin worked with his father to create his own armor suit. Designed for deep-sea diving with his father, his suit grants him super-strength and endurance for high-pressure work. Unlike his father's suit (which can zap with electicity), Sawfish has a retractable saw built into one arm for cutting work (hence his name) an advanced array of sensors.

Diamond Girl (Danielle Jones): Daughter of Luke Cage (Power Man) and Jessica Jones (Jewel), Danielle's skin is as hard as her fathers. Virtually impervious to harm, Danielle also has the ability to project energy bolts from her hands. As the daughter of two Avengers, she's seen a lot of superhero action in her time but finds the whole thing somewhat boring. She's motivated more by a desire to impress her loving parents than any real interest in being a superhero, but she does genuinely want to help people. Danielle spends a lot of time acting indifferent and slightly snarky, but when real trouble arises, she leaps into action with the experience a lifetime of being around superheroes provides.

Ultron-15.C (none) - An Ultron clone that was hacked by Hank Pym and the Vision, 15.C was templated off of the Vision, but with his memory wiped clean and with a new emotional matrix installed. He has an extensive memory, with a large swatch of the Avengers data files in his head. While he is made of adamantium, he has been mostly de-weaponized, except for some stun beams. He is reserved, uncertain and anxious to prove he is a hero and is not like his 'fathers'.

How are those?
