Neo, show me the comics reference from which you draw the fact that Venom can lift 175 tons and I'll shut up about everything and leave it all alone. I'll still be doing my own conversions, but I won't say another word about your errors.

I think we clearly have a case of someone unable to let a minor issue he personally has with a character conversion just go. Thrudjelmer, I would suggest you just let it go, convert the character the way you want to convert it, and stop bothering the rest of us over something this inconsequential.

I will let it go IF Neo shows me where he got the information for Venom's exagerated Strength, or if he stops calling them conversions and starts calling them interpretations. Calling them conversions is misleading and I am perturbed... and so, if I must be perturbed, I must share the experience with everyone else.

Venom Super Special: Planet of the Symbiotes part 3 (one shot), happy...good now go away you thoroughly unpleasant person.

As for what I call my work they are conversions, which obviously by the very nature of the fact they are done by one person and not a general consensus makes any conversion an interpretation.

Post further Trolling if you like but it will go ignored by me, I'll wait for the Moderators to catch up with their e-mail.

Everybody:
Hey, take it easy, mates.

Thrudjelmer, first of all, welcome to the boards.
Now, I can see where you're coming from. You have very clear views of some comic book characters, which you feel very strongly about.
However, please understand that, while criticism of someone's work is of course permissible (this is a public forum after all), please do so in a polite, respectful way. Barging into somebody's thread and accusing them of 'gross misrepresentation' is not the way to go. So please don't.

On an unrelated note, please don't use real-world politics (or religion) as examples in discussions here in EN World. 'cause debates about such things often lead to flame wars and we prefer to talk about gaming to fighting among ourselves. ;) Thus, such topics are not allowed. I know this rule might be hard to relate to for a newcomer, but it's there because of unpleasant experiences. So please stick to examples of a different kind. Thanks! :)

If you have any questions or comments you'd like to ask/tell me, whether regarding what I said above or not, please e-mail me at oni_no_bakaATyahooDOTcom in order not to further derail this thread. Thank you.

Oh yes, thanks for putting me in my place, Darkness.

To criticize is fine, as long as I do it in a non-criticizing manner...

Perhaps I should have made my point more in this fashion:

Neo, I disagree with the way in which you statted out your conversions... but I still think they are super-cool and you rock for making them available. Thanks for all your hard work.

I don't know, though... that still might be too harsh for everyone to handle considering everyone thinks I'm beligerant and insulting simply because I pointed out that his conversions have little credibility because of statistics that are quite obviously out of whack.

Alright! Dig that hole deeper! Woo hoo!

There's a big difference between saying that you think someone doing character conversions is a little generous on some strength points and asking what his source was and jumping to "utterly craptacular and completely biased creations". One would hope that we're all intelligent enough to understand that difference.

Yes, well if you go back and read what I wrote more carefully, you'll see that what you've quoted me on above was not directed at Neo. It was, in fact, directed at a hypothetical individual to illustrate an point by means of exageration... as in, if Neo can call his interpretations "conversions" and everyone praises his efforts just for making the effort, then anyone could put forth even the worst effort and they should recieve equal respect for doing so. And that is a rediculous point.

That you failed to grasp the meaning of that point is really taxing my restraint, because I feel like saying something very insulting about you. However, I shall refrain.

You misunderstand.

To summarize:
Feel free to criticize, but do not attack the guy.

Examples:

Attack -
This isn't merely a difference of opinion or my take vs. your take; these are gross misrepresentations.

Valid criticism -
I've never seen these characters do (X, Y, Z) before. Are you sure they should be so (powerful/weak/whatever)? If so, what sources are your conversions/interpretations based on?

I stand by the phrase "gross misrepresentations". It is not a derogatory statement, just strong. Its not like I jumped on the someone and said "Hey, I think your opinion on the matter is stupid," or "Where's your brain? You can't be using it to make up these numbers!" Those are attacks; "gross misrepresentation" is an accurate descriptive sentence.

I believe your standards of "attacking" are set far too high, and anyone that can't discern the difference between the examples in the previous paragraph is most likely far too thin-skinned. That's not an attack on anyone, either... just a supposition.

Now THAT does not qualify as a criticism at all. It is a statement followed by a question.

Do me a favor, Darkness... before you explain to someone that its okay to criticize, make sure you understand the word "criticize." Here, I'll help:
crit·i·cism Pronunciation Key (krt-szm)
n.
1. The act of criticizing, especially adversely.
2. A critical comment or judgment.
3a. The practice of analyzing, classifying, interpreting, or evaluating literary or other artistic works.
3b. A critical article or essay; a critique.
3c. The investigation of the origin and history of literary documents; textual criticism.

Here is a big hint... the key to the word criticize and criticism is critical. But yeah, yeah... I know... everyone's probably cheering right now because I'm going to forum hell for taking it to the moderator out in public. My point is still valid; you said I could criticize, and I have by the definition of the word criticize. While some people have mistaken some of what I have said as a direct insult to Neo, they are wrong. I admit to not being the most friendly of people, but please don't accuse me of something I haven't done.
