Mass combat systems

I'm just paging through Mongoose's Quintissential Fighter, looking at the Mass Combat Sytem, and wondering:

1.) Has anybody here used this system? Any advice, any thoughts?

2.) What other Mass Combat Systems are there out there, what merits and flaws do they have?

I took Mongoose's OMCS and adapted it for my own ends. Their system has a good framework, it was really close to what I wanted to do, and (best of all) it's OGC, so it worked well. There are, however, a number of mistakes (the editing was horrible) and they left a lot of things out, IMO, like special troops (aerial cavalry and shock troops, e.g.). I do like how they handled statblocks for units and siege engines - very handy. I'll be posting my version in the Downloads section once I get the finishing touches put on it (just some sample units, mostly).

I've got Cry Havoc, and it's pretty decent. But mostly I just wing it and have the outcome of a battle be determined by what works best for the campaign.

We'll see a link here, I trust?

Yes. We use it for "smaller" mass combats (<200 combatants). It's pretty good, and can be easily modified to suit your needs. Kerrick is pretty much right on the money with his comments.

We also use Eden's Fields of Blood, for much larger (big army-sized, 200+) combats.

Both those systems are in use in our campaign(s), depending on the number of combatants. Works for us.
