MAT bidding for Hasbro??

I poked around looking for info on mattel, and found that they hold a license for Harry Potter toys. Can't wait for the Slytheryn sourcebook....

I honestly doubt anyone of any signifigance at Mattel or Hasbro even knows about the D&D license.

You honestly think it's possible to rise to a position of significance within a company like Mattel or Hasbro without knowing every revenue stream available to the company, no matter how small?

(Not that D&D is small.)

except the pink dragon that does sound like it has possibilities. I'm not sure I like the idea but they have made Barbies for everything else. Actually I think they may pass on the Sorceress. It could get the Fundementals a little testy.
Huh? There already are sorceress Barbie dolls IIRC, from some of the recent CGI Barbie movies.

That seems an unnecessary dig at fundamentalist Christians.

Not a dig. If it was taken that way I'm sorry. I just don't picture a D&D Barbie tie in with Magic Users. I think that could be one of the reasons.

Is there sorceress Barbie? I don't keep up with such things.

Well, I don't either, but that's just because I don't picture D&D Barbie tie-ins at all.

There are magic-user Barbie dolls. There are magic-user Barbie characters in the newish movies (my daughter just turned seven -- we haven't missed one of those movies yet. I'm hoping she'll grow out of them in a year or two, though.) So the fact that there would be magic-user D&D Barbies, in the unlikely event that a) Mattel did buy Hasbro and b) decided to "synergize" D&D and Barbie, is unlikely to phase anyone.

Well, JD, you know some of us are still reeling from D&D Clue. :p

Yes. Wotc was bought for Pokemon.

I used to work for Fannie Mae. Don't get me started about what those guys were aware of. It is quite possible to run a very large company at the "strategy" level and lack a working knowledge of what goes on.

As a product, D&D is very small. It's the only thing in the world smaller than my ... uh ... well ... let's call it "Poppa Smurf".
