MAT bidding for Hasbro??

Same here. But I daresay that's because there are more products available for 3e than any other edition, including the third party products. Excluding them, I imagine 2e is still the reigning champion of product deluge.

And now, I've bought more 3rd Edition stuff in the last five years than I had 1st Edition in the first 23 years!

It would be nice to see Wotc functioning as an independent company again, if such a thing were possible. Of course, I hope they finish the minis line before any changes take place. Hasbro HAS been good for the production of the little buggers. Some would say their being the mother hen made it all happen.

Color me apathetic. Why? Because even if WoTC went belly-up tomorrow, I'd still have enough gaming stuff to last me a lifetime. And, as defined by the OGL, d20 publishers can continue to make product long after WoTC bites the dust.

That's quite true. In fact, there's a part of me that almost wishes WotC does go belly up before they get a chance to publish 4e -- I can keep playing for years without worrying about the player base leaving me behind and it being more difficult for me to find gamers willing to play d20. :)

Looking at it from that standpoint, I agree.

Let's face it though, if WotC went belly up, D&D would be sold off since it's still a very valuable brand. If that happens, hopefully the new owners would decide to keep with 3/3.5 and not put out a new edition. I doubt it would happen like that, but it could.

I almost hope it's not. I like the way WotC handled D&D better when they were independent than when they were under Hasbro's umbrella.
My first thoughts exactly. Let some gamer who cares about D&D buy and run the D&D properties, not some corporate suit. Then again, maybe it's just my general distaste for anything "marketing"-esque.

Some of the stuff in the above article is heartbreaking for me, as it shows a company founded on "having fun" being forced to grow up. Maybe it's necessary, but it's not fun.

There is market talk this morning that Mattel (MAT) could make a bid for Hasbro (HAS.) Word is that any deal would likely be accretive. HAS is presently up $0.20.

Interesting. (This is my job/life, btw.) I hope the WotC assets are considered "Core." to any particular acquiring company!

Being that Matel and Hasbro are the number one and number two toy makers in the world, respectively, who is number three, how far back are they now of Hasbro, and how far back would they be as number two if Matel bought Hasbro?
