Last week Time printed a long spoiler-filled preview of Matrix Reloaded. This week, the actual review has been published. Summary: self-proclaimed middle-aged guy who thought the first movie was kind of spiffy feels 2nd film has too many dead spots and a "been there, done that" feel.

aint it cool news also has a number of fan reviews on their site. Be warned that some are more spoiler driven than they lead you to believe. Not to mention that a majority of them break the grandma rules ;)

If nothing else the reviews are helping to lower my expectations. :)

It's quite simple to me: Anyone hoping to go to the Matrix Reloaded for scintillating plot and dramatic characterizations will be disappointed. Anyone going to see jaw-dropping CGI and cinematic sequences will get their money's worth.

The first movie, while possessing some great spectacle and a truly RPG-worthy premise, was about the same: the characters and plot were not moving nor sympathetic. They WERE, on the other hand, to borrow a phrase, "cool as all hell."

Actually, I just re-watched the Matrix, and have new respect for some of the plotting. KidCthulhu read an interview with Lawrence Fishburne, where he said something to the effect of:

"All while making the first movie, the Wachowski brothers kept telling me that Morpheus was crazy. I just didn't see it. Then we made the second movie, and I thought, 'Oh, yeah! Morpheus really IS crazy!'"

Obsessively focused... but cool. :)

oh my lord

Ok, totally off topic...

Take a look at this quote from an interview with Keanu Reeves:

"The films take place over a short amount of time and so it really felt like one film," Reeves said. "There really wasn't any distinction, per say, between the two. It wasn't like doing a checkoff play. 'Four years later, and now it's winter.' The timeline of the piece is very short. I believe it takes place over 72 hours, both films."

Bleh!!! The "reporter" who wrote this piece should be forced back to remedial English.

"per say"?? "checkoff play"??????

(hijack concluded)

ee gads boss!

um, like that should be Chekov shouldn't it? ... and I've never read any of his plays before (that I'd remember that is)

(I guess I did learn something all those hours watching reruns of the original Star Trek! )
