Maybe a new setting is what I need to enable me to enjoy 3e more.

I hear ya brother. I live in a different city than the people I game with (although we haven't managed to play in months because they all work evening shifts at bars/restaurants)... so when I am free to drive down on the weekends, guess what: everyone's at work, as usual. So I have a few beers, catch up with the usual suspects and we never get around to playing.

Well, I just secured some time off this week, so hopefully by getting there this Tuesday night, maybe we can finally scrape together a game.

Flexor, why don't you snoop around your local hobby shop and see if there are any groups looking for players? It sounds to me like you are getting dangerously close to DM burnout, and I think being on the other side of the DM screen is probably just what you need. I'm not saying it's easy to find another group (especially one you like), but it's worth a try, if the people you game with are as lazy about it as you say (but, I think most people are, really). Good luck.

Wow, DMing for six years without a chance to play? I'd want a break too! I'm fortunate that I am but one DM among five in our circle of friends; we are all happy with anyone taking the reins. I love DMing because it's fun to create and tell stories and be the one crafting the adventures, but it's also nice to just sit back and be the player too sometimes! :)

Well we haven't been gaming solidly during those years, but it's been that long since the AD&D game my brother was running went down. We didn't play for a year or two during that time, until now it was too hard to get everyone together. Now we have three players and me and it's been a weekly thing again.

I found a 3e Greyhawk game at the Fantasy Shop, but it was on one of my bad nights. I'm thinking of posting a note at the big Fantasy Shop out in the county and seeing what I can find.
