Melee Ranger At-Wills?

I have to say, there is nothing wrong with including an at-will which supports your alternative attack mode (a ranged at-will if you are a 2WF ranger).

It will give you more versatility, more options. Nimble Strike is a pretty darned excellent at-will to have available!

That's what I ended up going with, although it seems like a waste given my super-low Dex; I took Chain and Scale proficiency so I could focus on Str/Wis/Con. I'm dual-wielding waraxes, so I need the Con for the axe-related feats.

I think the Martial Powers book has an additional at-will power for Rangers.
It has two, but they only apply to the Beast Mastery class feature, as I mentioned in my initial post.

Careful Attack isn't horrible. It doesn't live up to the other Ranger at-wills, but it's not worthless.
Yes, yes it is. I don't want to turn this into another 'Careful Attack is le suck' threads, but see this thread for a mathematical breakdown of why it is in fact le suck.

2-weapon Ranger Human options: Careful Attack, Hit and Run, and Twin Strike
Not lots to pick from, but you have your 3
Careful Attack is not an option. See reply above.

You could allow a melee Ranger to take his/her third at-will from either Fighter or Rogue. That's relatively powerful, however, and would likely open up a can of worms from others at the table (especially if there's a Rogue or Fighter), but it's an option.
That's interesting, but you're right, potentially overpowered.
Personally, all the at-wills for Ranger should have been designed to account for either melee or ranged builds. It's quite limiting as it stands, though the ranged build Ranger has nice options.
All true.
Is there nothing in the Martial Powers sourcebook that could help?
Nothing.

You could take Twin-Strike twice?

Just kidding.
Har!

The third ranger at will would probably have to be a "punish you for attacking me" such as the star/infernal pact powers or the rogues riposte in order for it to compete with twin strike or the "get out of danger" powers the ranger has now.

for melee: main hand attack, with off hand attack if the target attacks before next round

for ranged: ranged attack, with another attack if target moves closer.

something in these general lines. Anything else will probably pale next to twin strike.

For now, you take careful strike, and you ignore it completely. :(

Revert tol the old way...

Or you house-rule careful strike into something that doesn't suck. I'm a big fan of the "+1 to all Defenses until the start of your next turn" option myself. :)

Just make it +4 like it was in playtesting. Mathematically I think it becomes better than Twin Strike, but it's nowhere near as cool, so you'll be Twin Striking all day anyway.

Man, the whining rangers do, when they have the best at-will in the game! (well, Righteous Brand is a very close second, but still)

You could take nothing and you'll still be awesome! Here's a power for you:

Twin Strike, take 2! (Ranger Attack 1)
At-Will - Martial
Attack: Just use Twin Strike already! What are you even looking at other at-wills for? Do it!

See the link in post #10 to see why that change to Careful Attack doesn't work.

My personal preference is "+2 hit and include Str bonus". i.e. it is like a basic attack with an extra +2 to hit.

Cheers
